Gazz,

Blog entry on the route from last year.BORDER TRACK OCT 08. Have you checked out the Trek notes on the site as well. They are usually up to date.

Cheers Mick

Gday Gazz,

Notes are only as up to date as last entry, so was a good idea to ask for current. Riverland Club did a run down their a few weeks ago and from what I'm told it's fine with the only problem bit being just before the one way section and only if its been raining.

Friday forecast is for warm weather, so you should be fine. If you like give me a ring before you loose phone service and let me know when to expect your call from the other end. I'm close by in the Riverland and do the track fairly often, so could shoot down if I don't hear from you at arranged time.

A few guys got stuck there a month or so ago, but from what I know it was inexperience not the conditions.

Cheers

Howdy MB

Thanks for that !
I don't think experience will be a problem - been four wheel driving for 21 years now and have done the Simpson 10 times in all directions and on every track (in Nissan Patrols ) I was just a little concerned about my 04 Rodeo but I'm hoping the 2 inch lift and 31 inch tyres will help ! I'm actually going to Keith to stay with friends on a property for a party Saturday night and have told them where I will be so they know that if I don't make the party then I'm stuck or broken down on the track ! I don't like to miss out on parties so I will be driving with my head not my foot ! I don't have to go that way but I am planning a trip next year for some overseas visitors and thought I could get off the black stuff at the same time !

Thanks again

I don't think you will have any trouble with the Rodeo.
We did the Border Track 2 or 3 months back, there was a 04(I think) Rodeo in our group. He only got stuck once, in the largest boghole south of Red Bluff, but there are chicken tracks around most of the bogholes if you don't want to tackle them.

We had a Honda CRV in our group too....once we got him to air his tyres down a bit further, he had no dramas either. Only needed to be towed up one dune.
Obviously he didn't attempt the bogholes :-)

Cheers

Thanks Glenn

I wasn't too worried really - I've owned Patrols with lifts and big wheels for 20 years and after buying the Rodeo new ( petrol ) and clocking up 140k in it I can't praise it up enough ! It has shown a few of the bigger boys up over here in the mountains ( Snowies and Brindabellas ) I just wish somebody made a 700 litre long range tank for it so I don't have to fuel up so often !
I am only new to this forum ( which I think is great ) so when I get back home or on a computer I will try and let the good folk who helped with their replies know how I went !

Surely being stuck on the Border Track has got to be better than being stuck home with the Missus !!

Thanks Glenn

OG - there's been a fair amount of rain down that way. Bordertown was saying a years worth in 6 weeks. Did the BT 2 weeks ago. Much better condition than at Easter. Sand is compacted but you can still have a lot of fun if you choose the far left tracks. The last couple of dunes offer lots of options. It's a fairly rough ride. Pity it's one way traffic for the best bits. Enjoy!

Cheers, Mike

Thanks Mike - I don't usually worry too much about track info but as I'm breaking the golden rule and travelling on my lonesome I thought I should ask !
I will be prepared though - I am taking a packet of cashews and 3 cases of beer in case I get stuck !
