it gold reef in SA

near port augusta

has anyone herd of it or been there

I have heart of it before but thought it was further north than port Augusta. There is a book about it when it was first discovered. Apparently the gold is close to the surface. Very interesting story. It is supposed to on native land and now not accessible. Apparently some explorers tried finding it again but believe the original map was reversed to try to hide it. If you find it let me know lol.

I have several publications relating to gold mining in South Australia. I have cheked them and couldn't find any reference to the place name of McMahon's Reef. I suggest you contact the Historian at P.I.R.S.A. and have him check their archives. The name may be correct although it could also be just a local name and not well kown generally. Good luck.
