One week to go for a trip through the
Carnarvon ranges WA. I am taking a group of vehicles (all Vietnam vets) some who have never done anything like this before, so may be a learning curve for some. We will travel through to the CSR
well 5 then up to
well 6 to have a look then down to
Wiluna. Then it`s south to
Sandstone and through station country and the Evanston Rd to finish at
Southern cross. All is organised and ready to go with plenty of keen starters so hopefully will be a memorable trip. Unfortunately there has not been a lot of rain out there this year so don`t expect a lot of
water in the
water holes but maybe a few wild flowers further south. Will let you know how it when`t when we get back. Has anyone done this trip recently? any comments please.

G'day Kevin,
We did
Carnarvon Range a couple of weeks ago. Left the vans in
Newman, turned off the highway at Kumarina and headed east. Easy tracks. Little rough in
places. Didnt see much wildlife. There is a bit of
water in
places. Talbots rockhole is pretty full and we found
places to soak in at Virgin Springs.
Our photos and blog are up here if your interested:

Thanks for that info, it will be a great help. Had a good look at the photos, a tremendous job with the blog as
well. Looks like you had a real good trip through there, looking forward to heading off even more now. Know what you mean about the
Wiluna Pub, been there a few times before when I used to live in the Goldfields. Thanks again.

Hi Kevin, are you towing anything on your trip? We're doing Carnavon Range next month and toying with the idea of whether to take a camper trailer, or just tent it. Have you spoken to anyone re pros and cons of towing through the area? It sounds like we're doing the exact same trip as you.

Mike,
I would not tow a camper through the
carnarvon range. For no other reason than the damage your trailer will cop. You could quite easily tow a camper, the
creek washouts arent to bad. The corrigations are. But the track is pretty overgrown in
places. My 80 series copped some decent scratches from there. Also a lot of the
places are pretty tight.
Up to you but I wouldnt reccommend it
Have fun.

Mdenic,,Only one of our group is towing an off road camper trailer, the rest including myself are tenting. I would take Matts advice as they have first hand knowledge of the track. We will be going in from Kumarina about mid morning on the 22 Sep. I drive a 76 Series Land Cruiser with Explore Oz wheel cove and flag, may see you on the track.

Thanks guys. There are 4 cars going. We were thinking of taking one offroad camper, figuring it would make it easier with the built in kitchen and the carrying of
water....etc. Kevin, you guys are taking one, anyway?? We won't be on the track till the 11th or 12th of Oct. Maybe if you're back before then, you can give us an update of how it went.
