Hi Greg

I also wish to make a comment on this and I was wondering if you would be kind enough to either post her E Mail address here or send it to me.
kevinedward50@bigpond.com

The way the article reads to me is that all vehicles will need to be escorted, and nothing is to be on top.

I don't agree Atta Boy. My interpretation is that the new rules will apply to both tour operators and visitors.

The restrictions will apply to troop carriers, whether hired, operated by tour operators or private individuals.

The seven passenger limit will also apply across the board as will the loading of luggage on top of vehicles.

The driver of the vehicle will be liable in all cases.

Have you seen the draft legislation?

I believe it is still in drafting stage at the moment so the press release is only touching on the immediate issue of accidents relating to hire vehicles.

I doubt if the government is going to make one set of rules for tour operators and one for private individuals. For example a private individual can load their troopy up with more than 7 passengers and load the roof racks to the sky whereas a tour operator or hire vehicle can't...doubt it.

Politically, there has to be a level playing field and I believe the govt will take that stance.

I believe that is hinted in the press release. We'll see what happens after is goes through parliamentary debate and the final draft is approved.

Yes there are a number of unwanted accidents.
Also there are many many visitors in the peak season.
And No there are very few police to actively oversee these visitors including rangers.

So the Qld Gestapo strike again with more stupid rules.
I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

Cheers Dodg.
