You can travel real cheap.

We are a family of 4 and have been travelling for 6 months on $700.00/wk. We met a couple who are doing it on $500.00.

Keys:

Hard to save on fuel
Accomodation - free camps where possible are the biggest saving
Food - don't eat out
Spending - you won't be able to do touristy things

But if you can handle that then you will have a good time

Cheers

Andrew

How do you find the camping cost, spoke to my parnets today and they have done may trips up North, South, East, they were saying it can cost up to30 odd dollars in some places.

How often did you sit at one place while on $700/wk

We didn't stay anywhere for more than 7 days.

Most caravan parks are about $30.00/night.

Get the Camps 5 book as this is a bible for independent travellers. It costs $80.00 but its well worth it for finding free camps.

Talk to other travellers for cheap places to stay

You are not very clear as to the means of travel you intend to use. If it's a motor vehicle then to keep costs down you would have to limit the amount of travelling (mileage/distance) down. If you have a tent or swag you can also save some money by not having to tow a trailer or van (if you have a motor vehicle). By purchasing food at supermarket, farmer's markets and cooking your own meals, you will find it cheaper than dining on take-a-way. As for 'travelling' whilst on Govt 'payments' (you probably mean benefits) I suggest that you visit your local Centre Link office and have a chat with them. Be frank and honest and ask them for the best advice - for your circumstances. Good luck, keep an eye on the cat and make sure it doesn't kill any of our wildlife or worse still pick up any poison baits (1080 Poison Dog Baits, laid in large numbers throughout Pastoral areas to control wild dogs. Fatal to any animal eating them).

Still making up my mind on what I want to use as a travel vehicle, this is why I have been asking Q's for.
