New Disco 4

Heres a link to make it easier to see.
Those dash vents look the same as the one in the new 70 series dash layout :-)

Hope all that electronic stuff they keep stacking in these things can handle a few corrugations and a bit of dust or there will be a few bleep off owners :-)

The reliability of electrics in harsh conditions Steve, Thats the worry!

As time goes on they are getting better,

But as i've said before landrover have absolutley no Backup outside the metropoliton areas what so ever.

do you have evidence/experience of this "lack of reliability of electrics in harsh conditions"?

Your last statement is also totally inaccurate. I've had no problem with same day delivery in country areas when a) tyre blow-out severed brake line and needed replacing b)another time needed studs replacing and again arrived same day. I'd agree the dealerships are thin on the ground but there's a healthy aftermarket-place for Landys of all types outside the official dealerships and usually at better prices. Also, neither Tojo or Nissan will always have the part you need whether there's a nearby dealership or not. Not saying it's harder to get parts but a mate of mine had a real job getting a part for a Hi-lux (of all vehicles you'd think they'd be well catered for in the country) whilst out bush

Steve! , I 've owned a landy for eight years!, Its not about getting parts to you!, Its about finding someone with the equipment and knowledge and interest to help out, with these vehicles. when in remote areas. I know my Landy like the back of my hand, ...No electronics, but sure as hell would not venture to far with the later models with out a very fat wallet ..lol, you only have to read back through this siite, or even the the landy site before you relize the ongoing problem with landrover and service. I really like the product, but there is this blanket there that stops me from updating.

Also Steve i operate excavators, and different companys have experimented with electronic controlled hydraulic systems, only to find dust and vibration played havoc with them ,its taken ten years for Jap companys to get it half sorted!, Get My Drift!!.

Cheers Axle.

Maybe right there Disco, but you get more bang for your bucks with the two you mention..

I won't by either Disco or LC200 or new Nissan for that matter, not that I carn't afford it, I just don't see value for money in a new vehicle any more.

Well I think it is fantastic and I really liked the D3 and would have bought one ..(instead of the LC200) but for one concern only.....

That is that LR prohibit the use of a WDH when towing and I don't care what anybody says, if you put 300kg downforce on your bar some 600-700mm or more behind your rear axle, you will take too much weight off your front wheels and you are going lose steerage and traction. Raising the rear suspension, which the Discos do with their auto levelling air suspension DOES NOT transfer the weight onto the front wheels.

This is a serious design flaw for a prospective tow vehicle in Australia because most mid to large caravans in Australia have a TBM between 200-300kg. Great for UK/Europe because the vans are lighter and have a legislated max TBM of 100kg. So this explains why they do it...who cares about the Australian market when they sell that many elsewhere.

If I wasn't towing..., I woudn't have anything else and having said that,I know that there are several people towing big vans with their D3, not sure how they fare with the weight transfer issue...Russ??

nice rig... stupid price. I prefer the old LR days when they made a truck for the people. That's what the Discovery was supposed to be about. I don't think it is worth 6 figures!
