Hi all,
I have a 4 year old Waeco CF-50 that has had a medium amount of use in it's time. I set it at 4 degrees which gets it icy cold without freezing drinks. At Christmas it started playing up.
It gets colder and colder and freezes and shows on the display that it is 24 degrees. Anyone else had this problem or know what is going on?

I suspect that your termostat is faulty or more likely it has come away from the mount inside the foam insulation as
mine has. I bought one of those digital thermostats that you can find at camping store for about $10-$20, cut the external sensor with cable off at the display and resoldered it to the circuit board in the waceo. Cover the new sensor in silicon to stop water/moisture from entering and then siliconed it inside the fridge and has worked fine for over 2 years. Though if your fridge is only 4 years old it probably under warrenty and get it fixed. My local fridge and air-con company say they can fix it for about $110.

TJ, I had a minor issue with my CF-50 earlier this week which the local bloke couldn't help me with so he gave me a number for the technical blokes at Waeco. It's meant for use by their service agents but I rang anyway and they were quite helpful and were able to answer my query.
The number is 1300 304 220.

There is a
little red switch at the bottom where the power cable plugs in that can be switched from low/high/emergency cutout. On emergency the fridge runs all the time and freezes all your food. Find this switch and move it the the HIGH position and see what happens. If the food stops freezing then you've solved the problem.
BTW, is this actually minus 24 degrees?
worth a try.

Hi there TJ, I have the exact same fridge and had the exact same problem. Its the thermistor which is built into the wall of the fridge. You don't want to watch them fix it or you will be freaking out thinking bloody hell why are they drilling a hole in my fridge ?? LOL They have to do it to fix it but once done it will fix the problem permanatly. Its a very common problem. Cant recommend anyone down in VIC sorry IM in NSW and had
mine fixed by a waeco dealer/service place at Blacktown, great bloke and very helpful. Sorry cant give you a rough price as
mine was done under the 5 year warranty (luckily). Ring waeco and they will tell you the closest repairer near you. When I took
mine down to the bloke as soon as I described the problem (same as yours) he knew straight away the problem. Just reread your post, at 4 years old your still under warranty so wont cost you a cent..................Regards Steve M

Hi Steve,
Where did they drill the hole, can you give me measurements. What did they fill the hole with after the job?

Hi TJ. Our CF-50 was doing exactly the same thing over the last couple of weeks. Took it into the fix it man today and it is the thermostat. They have a 5 year warranty I was told today, so if it isnt older than 5 years, it should be free to fix it.
Ours was showing 30 degrees and freezing everything. Karen

I had travelled to
Tweed Heads before I could get someone to look at it. Went straight to Waeco in Burleigh. Had it back in 48 hours. The thermistor was the problem. They also upgraded a fuse in it, Cost me $139 and a few bags of ice in along the way. It worked great as an ice-box. Running beautifully now. Met a guy camped beside me in Armidale who had the same fridge with the same problem. It seems that once the thermistor is fixed they run
well for along time. Here's hoping. Thanks to everyone for their input. Spot on.
