Just bought an oregon 300 and want to upload exploroz trek data. It comes down as a GPX.XML file, and Garmin software ie basecamp wont allow it to import. Tried to convert using GPS Babel, but cant get it to work.
Any tips ?
Thanks in anticipation

I know that I have to use the Ozi Explorer program to upload these files to my Garmin.
1. Down load plot from ExploreOz
2. Set Ozi Explorer to Garmin in properties.
3 Send polt points etc to the Garmin unit.
4 Save this info as a file in WhereIs for future use.
Hope this helps, Colin.

Unless i'm mistaken, the GPX file i downloaded (fraser island trek) doesn't pass the
gpx validation process, using SAXCount.exe. Errors i noticed included:
"Error at ..\EO_T16_.gpx, line 2, char 338 Message: attribute 'version' has value '1.0' that does not match its #FIXED value '1.1' "
(i would assume that the schema is referenced incorrectly)
I'm guessing that these files have not been validated and as such may not open in other programs.
EO staff, Is it possible to make these files conform to the GPX schema?

Ah Andrew that should not be the case I used the latest schema and SAXCount myself to validate the results before publishing. I will check again now as I did do a schema update yesterday to support file uploads however the issue being reported in your output line 2 attribute version will not stop the file from opening in any GPX 1.1 compliant process. But I will download that exact file now and double check.
Thanks for letting me know will report back in 5-10 mins.

Andrew,
Thanks for the alert I had induced a few issues - these are now fully resolved. Mind you I crashed the server in the process of fixing the problem but the result of SAXCount on the Fraser Island file is as below:
C:\>saxcount -v=always -s -n -f eo_t16.gpx
eo_t16.gpx: 2314 ms (3827 elems, 3738 attrs, 3947 spaces, 4991 chars)
So all standards are now fixed in the GPX file I will check the GeoRSS tomorrow to be sure I did not stuff this one up also.

David,
I'll send you an email offline to discuss it further. I believe some coding is upsetting some programs.

David,
There is a problem with your "license" description in the GPX file....it needs to be anyURI, not a text string as shown (the old %20 issue). Changing this will allow Mapsource etc to open up the file.
Why the license descriptor is not a text string beats me. ;)

Andrew,
Bugga missed that one anyURI what a crazy thing. Anyway I have written a file and pointed the license to the URI in the GPX file so it should now be hunky dory. Can you give it a try and let me know how it goes?

Hi pjm,
Can you try and dowload the GPX file again (assuming you are a member) and see if that makes a difference.
Seeing as the EO files conform to the GPX standard, they should work.
Do your files have a GPX extension or are they saved as an XML one.....Internet Explorer used to have some problems every now and then with file associations.
Hope that helps.

Yes I am a member. Downloaded again, still wont import. The file comes down for the wentworth/old coach road, as EO_T156.gpx.xml
as it has the suffix .xml, wont import. Garmin only wants to import .gpx files. I have tried changing the suffix manually, but it does not work.
Any further ideas ?
Thanks in anticipation

Downloads ok my end...
Are you using Internet Explorer by any chance? Some of the older versions had issues with file associations.
Rename the file EO_T156.xml, then to EO_T156.gpx depending on operating system etc. You may need to get rid of the "gpx" in the filename first, then change the extension...what operating system are you using?
The file needs should be called EO_T156.gpx
Hope that helps

Got it now
The problem was uploading using Safari in Mac. Now using Firefox, and comes down as GPX< but in multiple parts. The Garmin software loads it in alphabetical order so I wil have to manually work out which bit of the track goes where, but I am sure I can work through it
thanks for your help
No idea how to stop it fragmenting ?
