Posting this for a mate, posted it while back and found heaps of things out we didn't know so tried a few things suggested any more info would be appreciated don't know what to do next.
I am still having trouble with the oil pressure on the wagon.
Nissan Patrol, GU 4.2lt High Oil Pressure 200K/kms serviced every 5kms oil and filters Oil pressure steady at 50psi up to 196k, then started occassionally moving up when cold, sometimes as high as 95psi.
Then became for frequent even when warm 60psi at 2000rpm, 75psi at 2500rpm, 85psi at 3000rpm.
Had 200k service, engine cleaner put through motor, still the same prob.
Had all oil pressure relief valves checked - still the same, had new oil pump relief valve fitted still much same.
When driving at 2000 rpm, can be 70psi, take foot off push clutch in 750rpm 20psi clutch out back to 2000rpm 40 psi. Any ideas on where to go next??
Regards Scoof . :-)

hi
have you removed oil pressure sender unit and checked the oil pressure with a gauge screwed into there it could be a faulty sender unit

Best bit of advice yet never trust electric oil gauges the sender mecanism wears use a master gauge to check oil press problems.

Ditto above . .
You may have a restriction in the oil journal to the sender unit, there may be some gunk that has dislodged causing the problem, this can also happen when/after running engine cleaner through the motor.
Or has an auto electrician checked for voltage drop in the offending area?
Cheers

Drop into a mechanic, he will have a mechanical test guage, that will be more accurate... Michael

I will check but I'am sure he was running around for a while with the machanic's master gauge in the cab with him.
I hope it is as simple as a faulty sender unit.

Scoof I don't know if this helps any different car similar problem. After having the old girl rebuilt 92TD Cruiser Feb. Oil pressure gauge stopped working while away at
Easter. Had the car towed back home hoping nothing major was wrong. Put Mechanics gauge on at the sender a number of times hot & cold so on. Read great each time. Pulled the dash out sent something away to a computer mob to recalibrate. Still doesn't work. So after a two new senders in case the second was a dud I drive around hoping all is ok. Had 3
services since and re checked at the sender pressure still ok.Done about 15000km since with an evil eye on the temp gauge.

Thanks Sharon ,
As I said this is a mates 4wd and normally not fitted with a oil pressure gauge he fitted it . So if it was left standard with only a oil pressure light you could never tell the oil pressure had increased, so sometimes it might pay to never know. LOL.
It may not be a problem it might go for ever like that or it could cause a problem who knows. That's the problem do you just leave it or keep looking and looking and worrying about what if.
Thats about were he is right now his machanic is stumped as
well I think.
Cheers Scoof . :-)
