I believe the power plant for Aust is the same as the last model, for the 2010 model at least.

Recently received some brochures on the "new" Prado ( both diesel and petrol ) and Toyota have revised the engine management system on both new model's due for release in November this year. The diesel still uses the common rail diesel, but with improved breathing and exhaust and some tweaking of the computer . Fuel consumption is supposed to be around 8L/100Km and the petrol is down to 11L/100Km.
I saw the vehicle - still under wraps in the workshop with the attitude of :"If I tell you I`ll have to kill you !" mentality. Want to know what it looks like . Take a look at the `cruiser 200, and then downsize it ,and that's what the new Prado looks like. Still extremely
well finished and equipped inside - it bloody
well ought to be for the price one is paying for these vehicles. 2nd hand ones are still fetching prices for vehicles that are close to four and five years old of around $43,000+, and thats here in
Perth. Looks like its going to be a long wait before I can afford a good 2nd hand one, let alone a new one. Fuel consumption is the major improvement and selling factor

Yup thats the new model due on showroom floors in November - now if only the Kluger or RAV 4 was made as a proper four wheel drive and not a pretend 4x4 , then I could be interested.
I know this section has nothing to do with the Prado, but Japan are still making the 4Runner and the Surf - and being sold in New Zealand where I have just come back from. Its the 215 series Surf, using the same Chassis as the first Surf and 4runner and are incredibly popular over there. Toyota Australia have too many pretend 4x4s and not enough midsize 4x4 s like the old 4runner. The NZ Surf has a choice of motors: either the Prado 3.0litre diesel, 3.4 quad cam V6 or 4.7 litre V8 - I know which I would be opting for.

Well it looks like they've done away with the old door. I have the 90 series which is OK and the old man has the 120 series and being a lot wider it looks like a lot of strain on the door hinges. With the new model being wider again it was time for change? Looks like the old Explorer where you can lift up just the window or the whole door.
With the motors, I think they're saying the petrol is the same except for the VVT bits adding 10% power, while the diesel is improved but no figures to back it up.
Cheers,
Mark.
