Peter you can do it without a tank. I have a tank as it provides a resivour of air as
well as pressure (up to 120psi), which is handy for other uses. I think the tank also assists in reducing the amount of compressor lubricant getting into the tyres (my theory).

Hi Peter. There are several compressors on the market. Unless you are going to do alot of work with the compressor the tank, although nice, is not necessary. I use a Truck-air compressor Autobarn @$130 which does a great job as long as you through away the cigarette lighter plug and use a better plug

Hi Peter, you don't have to use a reciever tank if you don't want to, they are handy to have , especially if you need to re-
seat a bead on a tubeless tyre, i use a modified aircon compressor and run it into a small reciever tank, if you are after a tank try a refridgeration repair place, usually they have hundreds of them that they can't get rid of, 9 times out of 10 you will get them for free or at least very minimal cost, hope this helps, cheers, David.
