For those doing the
CREB Track I would like to suggest a little bypass of the main track that will give the more experienced a further challenge.
The area is the
Lookout hill that has the communication tower on top. At the top of this
hill the road has a
fork that you can take up to the end of the Power lines (All lines have been removed south of this point). Great view to the North and South.
If traveling South to North you turn left to the
lookout, from here the track is at the end of the
clearing and traverses directly down the
hill following the power lines and not around the side as the Main Track does. It is narrow steep and washed out.
Coming from North to South the track turns off to the right along a straight, when on this straight you can see the top part of the red soil track with the power lines. It is not used often so as soon as you see the track way up there on the
hill start looking on the right.
Be aware it is very steep and has washouts and I would suggest you will need to be a capable driver with a capable 4 x 4. Going down the grade is such that when using 1st Low 4x4 you will still need to feather the brakes at times. Going up, even with front diff locks, sees many areas of lost traction.
Any
sign of rain - do not attempt.
Enjoy the experience - I did :-) Cheers Tony
