Hi all

Has anyone tried or is it even possible to remove/flatten the internal tray of a style side triton ute (or any ute for that matter? The wheel arches are quite high on most but I'm pretty certain they don't need all the travel provided, as it would be reduced if I was to put a flat tray on anyway.

Hi Stef,

I replaced the styleside on my Rodeo when I purchased it in 2002 with a trayback & canopy. Same can be done for a Triton or any similar vehicle.

Thanks John

I definitely didn't explain my question properly. What I want to do is keep the style side, but refabricate the wheel arches so the tray is flat, instead of replacing the whole tray.

Stef and Sal

The only way I could see you keeping your styleside intact is to build up your tray to the same height as the wheel arches. Something like slide on boxes could then be used under the fabricated tray.

Stekf, first you would have to determine how much axle travel you need
The you could determine how much you want to flatten the wheel arches.

I think you will still have to raise the floor to get one large flat area.

We have a Hilux dual cab at the moment and from what I can see the tray sits higher compared to where the styleside would sit, I imagine at a similar height to where the wheel arches on the styleside would be.
So if you were to refabricate the arches to be flat I imagine you would have to lift the whole tray body (styleside) to allow for the wheel travel. I guess it could work but it would end up being pretty shallow if you lifted & rewelded the floor, and otherwise if you tried to lift the whole thing it would probably just look odd. So I would tend to sell the styleside and maybe look at a custom tray?
