Hi team.
I understand that a few Pajero owners (like me) have had a problem with a harmonic engine vibration at around 2200 rpm.
well after spending a few thousand dollars and no suscess we have at last found the problem.
If anyone is still having this problem just make contact, it will cost you ten minutes of your time and a 14mm ring spanner.
Regards

Hi
the fellow team member is correct and tell all of our fellow Pajero owners the problem is the dampening weight that is bolted to the bracket at the rear of the automatic gear box.
Mitsubishi have just released a hotline alert to the dealers advising them of the problem.
Just remove the metal block from the bracket (not the bracket) the bracket is needed to protect the gearbox.
I was wrapted, it worked.
Happy hunting.

Marq,
I believe / dealers are thinking that this problem is in the NM series on until the block was removed by the manufactor in the 2007 mod.
I have been told that it only exists in the automatics, but who knows.
I will be looking what my options are with all the monet that I have spent with the dealer trying to locate the problem.
All the best Blackass55

The problem is the vibration dampening weight bolted to the rear of the transfer case. Pajeros built post May 07 do not have the weight fitted. Removing it fixes the problem, it's held on by two 14mm nuts.

Hi. Don't think I would be too happy spending a "few thousand" dollars on a problem only to find it is some sort of manufacturer's design fault. Hope you have some sort of retribution. Bob.

Are you talking of NB, NE, NF, NG, NH, NJ, NK, NM. NP. NS or NT?

I have a vibration/resonace at 2450 rpm, which is annoyingly at 95 km/hr in 5th.
Not at 2200 rpm.

Can't see weight you are talking about?

I have a 1996 NJ (early 96, not the later 96 NK) 2.8 turbo diesel manual pajero.
It didn't occur in my 2.6l petrol NB, 1986.

Mine is a 1999 2.8 TDi Auto. Ex Japan (winter version) Can anyone tell me what model that would be in Australia ? We don't use the model system in NZ.

I have a very slight vibration that I have not looked into yet, thought it may be drive shaft related due to having cranked up the suspension a little.

Hi KK,

Try looking on the Pajero Club website - www.pajeroclub.com.au. The forum may also be able to shed some light on your problem.

Cheers

99 I think would be NL, if it is the generation II shape like mine.

Gen 1 was 1984 to 1989, gen II 1990 to 1999, gen III (NM, NP), the weird one with the big guards :o), to late 2006 (?) , when the NS came in. Current model is the NT, from late last year.

My vibration/resonace occurs at the same revs in each gear, so is engine related.

Trying to keep up with you. :o)
93 most probably is NH, first of the gen II, or it might be early NJ being 2.8.
The 2.8 diesel didn't arrive in OZ until 94, and manuals only.

Forgot to add, gen I - NA to NG, gen II - NH to NL, from memory, open to correction.
