We dropped into the store in
Melbourne and were stunned to see they were closing the
shop down. They had sold the building and will no longer have a retail outlet after October.
I'm not sure if anyone else had posted this or not. I did a thread search with no luck.

hello madcow
well maybe it's a
sign of the times recession/ and the fact that there seems to be a lot of
camping stores all selling simular equipment and there has to be a saturation point in retail at some stage
also areas where you can go and
camp or
park a c/van c/trailer are on the decline i and are being taken over by high price accom unit type development in wa in particular and perhaps victoria as
well ?
at least 9 caravan parks along our west coastline from geralton to margaret river have all been gobbled up in the last 2-3yrs in w.a that i know of caused by soaring land values/and turn/over income decline the almighty dollar speaks and rules the day
cheers mazcan barry

Yes I agree with that, there are so many
camping stores nowadays and you have people like Anaconda trying to do a Bunnings in their market space. Freedom had already closed some other stores down so this is no surprise.

Sory to hear of the closure - they provided a great range of products and more importantly knew what they were taliking about with the owners being experienced bushmen. There does seem a monotony of similar products wherever you go to buy. Why do all these retail outlets discount at shows? people just wait until a show and buy - whatever happened to margin retention translating to future existence ?? Good for the consumer though - I suppose or perhaps not.

AFIK the guy who does the tents is retiring and couldn't tempt any of his family to take over the business or find someone who was as dedicated to the quality of the tents as he was to buy the business, so he decided to retire this year and just close
shop.
I had a Freedom Family Tourer and it was the best tent I have ever owned, even survived a mini cyclone up north once without a drop of
water inside.
Cheers Glen.

The Freedon Tents are not made in Australia , they come from NZ. I imported them for freedom
Camping for a couple of years.
The old guy told me about the sale of the building already a couple of years ago. The location is a valueabe spot for office space or residental but not so much for a
camping store and the cmpetion has move in on the next corner anyway.
