Just wondering if anyone has crossed the simpson from Mt Dare to
Dalhousie Springs, across the French Line and then into
Birdsville in a 2.8 Diesel 4runner ?? I was after the amount of fuel used as I am planning a trip for myself. I have a 1990 4runner 5spd manual. Im not towing a trailer or anything. Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers

Hi Stuart
Many moons ago when we used to travel the Simpson on a very regular basis, my record with my 2.8 Pajero was 78 litres, just pipped to the post with another guy travelling with us in his 2.5 Disco - he used 76 litres for the same trip.
Generally speaking, your vehicle is not working very hard and you are usually travelling slow.
Cheers

Hi Stuart,
FWIW we did the same trip (Mt Dare to
Birdsville) in a manual 2.8 Turbo Diesel Triton (running diesel-gas system) back in July this year. No trailer but the car was loaded up a bit, we carried an extra 60 litres + a full 75 litre
tank from Mt Dare.
At that particular time the crossing was easy and we used 82 litres for 586 km.

Just did a crossing of the Simpson a few weeks back in company with 3 other vehicles. Fuel figures from Mt Dare to
Birdsville via the French Line and WAA Line were:
LC105 turbo diesel = 140ltrs
Prado D4D = 120ltrs
D40 Nissans diesel = 115ltrs
and wait for it...........V6 petrol holden frontera = 101ltrs.
