Hi all,
As most of you know we have been working on a number of performance issues over the last couple of weeks. I am currently rebuilding a number of programs on my development system and will be installing this over the next few hours. Each of these updates will only take a few mins at a time however they may cause a number of performance issues as they are installed.

I would ask you to bear with me tonight as I work full time to resolve the issues. The worst part of it is that there is no apparent reason for the performance to have dropped over the last few weeks so I am flying a little blind. I do however have a number of updates that I have thought should be installed and these will be going in tonight.

Thanks for your understanding and hopefully we will be past this tomorrow.

Hi again,

I have installed the first update and will monitor the system for a while to see if this the desired effect. Again sorry for the interruptions to the service I am causing some issues to see how the system recovers from various events.

Finding some very interesting results I am sure we will get this sorted - the news feed RSS elements are taking a lot longer than they used to and so is the BOM weather feeds - these pauses may be causing us some grief so will re-write these and see what happens.

Ok jobs done for tonight - I have rebuilt a huge amount of the system and adjusted all sorts of caching and timing systems which I hope will make a significant difference. I know it certainly will however will it fix it completely us a different question.

I will leave this thread open now - so if you notice anything not working right or have any significant issues please let me know.

David it does certainly seem to be must faster and generally more responsive at the moment than its been for the past week or so.

I guess the real issue is that if you are not able to find the main issue that caused the problems then they may very well return and you will have to start all over again from scratch to re-work the issues :-(

Cheers

Hi David. I'm @ Quindi NSW, on my way to St George. BigPond Wireless. It is a lot faster today, although Followup and Spell Checker windows take a while to load. Steve...

Hi David
It is a little better, but no where as quick as it has been in the past. Like I mentioned to Damian the other day, I only ever use Fire Fox or Google Chrome, and it is the same on both.

It still takes time to open threads and to get the main page to open.

Keep up your great work on the best site.

Regards

Stephen

Yesterday I still find Exploroz TOTALLY UNUSABLE when on dialup.

I get full pages from Overlander, Caravan and Motorhome and Pajero Forums within 15 seconds. I can download Youtube videos, but of course slower than on broadband.

If I try to access www.exploroz.com on dialup it NEVER works.

This is strange Mike - I have used dial up in testing and have not had any problems like this. What do you get and what pages are you trying to load, also what browser are you using?

I'm using IE 8.0.6001.18702

It actually happens when I exceed my monthly limit on Bigpond Cable and get throttled back.

All other websites work - just more slowly, as you would expect at dialup speeds.

I have never been able to open any exploroz page when throttled back to dialup speeds.

If I try to open www.exploroz.com it sits there for ages with the green bar say it's waiting for www.expl. . . . . then eventually it says "unable to open . . . "

Mike, I have those problems too at a dropped back speed of 64kbs. I just don't use EO for that week or so when Telstra drops it back. Nearly 25 of the time :-((

Guys,

When you are shaped (ie slowed by ISP) try doing what is documented in this Site Tip - Wrong link see below for correct link.

Please let me know if this works for you or not. I am waiting on feedback about this document.

David, you link works. It just provides another feed of this page. Last time I tried the hints, I found everything was pretty up to date anyway.

I can still access all other websites (Overlander, Caravan and Motorhome and Pajero Forums open all pages within 15 seconds. I can download Youtube videos, but of course slower than on broadband) without having to make adjustments when I get shaped and then unshaped.

I don't believe the problem is at my end.

David, I find that the 'back to index' button is quite often very slow.
Much quicker using the 'back one page' button up the top.
(Firefox)

Also, when I hit the submit button, I see the message 'waiting for bs-systems.com'

cheers

Dave - that is the ad servers I know about this one - I am working on the rendering pauses at the moment when the site will NOT deliver any content for around 30-40 seconds. I do believe last nights work has made significant difference however I am still monitoring it and looking at logs.

Sooooooooooooooo bad on my end 90% of the time... over waiting and waiting and waiting for it!
I love EO, but no wonder I only pop in once or twice a week now cause every time I try I cannot get onto the site or pages will not load..
Even right now, I have been trying to reply to a thread and it is just not happening and I was trying before to put a thread up for Kev and it won't let me. Will give it ten and try again.

Jo,

What type of connection are you using? The system has been responding in less than 2 secs almost all morning thus far?

Keeping Flash Player up to date I find does make a significant difference to not just this site but so many others also as it is quite common for so many sites to have extensive Flash Player animation of some sort.

I keep reading the issues and whilst I'm certainly not an expert in these things keep wondering how up to date people are with the whole range of software that they use on their machines including Windows updates.

People tune and service their cars but seem to either not realise the need or neglect to tune their computers with software updates for the respective software they are using and clean out the machines memory/cache and registry from time to time, it all helps to keep the system in tune.

I also use all MS software, XP Professional, IE 8 and Outlook Express etc all software commonly used by industry as a whole and all work very well for me, never needed a reason to use Fire fox or Chrome etc or the other obscure minority branded software products that others use because they claim they have hassles with MS products.

I seem to have very little problems in terms of site speeds and hangups etc compared to many who post complaints on here I just wonder if my comments above are part of the difference??

The last week or so has been the exception and the site certainly has had some problems which David is working on.

David maybe a site reminder when people first log on or access the site that reminds them the site operates best with the latest version of Flash Player etc and a link to the FP download site would help people overcome some issues??

Just my thoughts on the matter :-)

Cheers

I agree that the Insert Link window took ages to appear. I almost gave up but eventually it came good.

I'm glad I ain't too scared to be lazy
