Hi all I am looking at travelling upto
Rainbow Beach for a few nights this week, and was wanting to know if you need vehicle permits and how much they are? And also if you can
camp any where along
the beach and can you take dogs? Any help will be awesome as I'm having trouble finding much info to answer these questions? We will be taking the kids to
tin can bay to feed the dolphins so any other
places to see would be a big help.
cheers

NNF,
As far as I know, you will only need a vehicle permit if you intend to drive on
the beach.
Camping with dogs is permitted at
inskip point, and
camping permits (and vehicle) are available on line at www.epa.qld.gov.au
regards
Scott.

We worked up there at Kia Ora about 10 years ago. Our Saturday fun was go and watch the idiots drown there cars. We saw hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of cars totalled, including a 6 month old mercedes benz 4wd tour bus. What a laugh to see people drive there cars into the ocean to try and get around the rocks at
rainbow beach. We helped push 1 guy out who then turned around and had another go driving into the
water up to his windscreen. Didn't bother helping a second time. He was told to go back!!!!!!! Nice spot up there though. I remember seeing fish swimming in the waves as they were forming.

If you intend driving along
the beach from Noosa to
Rainbow beach, you do not need a permit. There is a 15km section of beach just south of
double island point that you are permitted to
camp on as long as you've pre purchased a
camping permit. This can be done on line or at the NP office by the
Tewantin ferry and costs $5 per person per night.
The beach from
double island point to
Rainbow beach is badly eroded and is not really traffic able, take the Freshwater track from
the beach up to the main road and continue along the bitumen to
Rainbow beach. You are not allowed to take dogs on
the beach as it is a NP. Hope this has answered your questions. One other thing check the tide times and only travel near low tide.
Regard Jon
