We recently bought a 12v shower system to try out and it has started playing up after only a few days. We are keen to try using a Rule 500 bilge pump to set up our own system. But we have heard they don't do so well with shower temperature water. Has anyone tried this? Does anyone know how the bilge pump would cope with warm/hot water? Cheers.

Still using the same bilge pump I used to make my shower in 1981 so who is running around telling untruths that they won't stand warm shower water. let them myth maker upperers desist or prove that they are telling the truth.

I seriously doubt a bilge pump would have any trouble with any water. The one in my boat gets all sorts of mistreatment sucking sand and saltwater and seaweed.

There is not a lot inside one of those pumps to go wrong and unless the water was hot enough to melt plastic I don't think anything will happen.

Of course people who want to 'sell' you a 'special' shower pump will tell you different.

Hi Cameron,
Mate I used a bilge pump for donkeys years when we went camping and caravaning and it was brilliant. The pump was nothing flash as far as brand goes but it worked very well.
We bought a farm which did not have a house on it ans so we used the bilge pump for many years pumping water which came directly from a chip heater into a shower rose fitted on the other side of the wall. Everybody was impressed with it and said it was better than their shower at home.

My advice is go for it. I had no problems.
