Good luck!
Just a little advice. Take heaps of drugs. :) The sort you get from your pharmacist. Antibiotics for you all, and anything else that springs to mind you might need. Can be a real pain and a long drive to find a doc. Do a
first aid course and carry good comm's.
Have fun!

I guess it has already been said, "Have fun" Even though you do not have a time limit go slow. Despite those who want to travel at 180 kms per hour there is more to see if you travel reasonably slowly. Remember the early exporers walked. They saw more than we do.
If you really need to watch "Home and away" or "Doctors and nurses" do you really want to travel. I have travelled with a powerful SW radio and rarely turned it on.
There are many
places to
camp. You do not need to go to a caravan
park EVERY night and have a shower (too expensive) but go to either a
park or a motel once a week to get civilised -- the laundry needs to be done sometimes.
You will find plenty of "old blokes" camped in the bush. Do not repeat NOT go an
camp alongside them. They will come to you if they want company, some do some don't. The same with
water -
camp away from it you will be surprised at what comes in the night for a drink.
The main thing is to enjoy yourself the children will love it and you will love what the children see and enjoy.
Have a nice trip.

The kids will love the trip and learn so much. We have just finished almost 3 years on the road. We found not to plan to far ahead as there are many things that change as you go. Someone tells you about something you should see but it is not in the direction you had planned to go. With an open time limit you can change your plans as you go. We loved the idea of not really knowing where we were going. If you want to we have a web site of our travels you may be interested in, it is
http://kidsandall.webs.com/. Just remember you will have some bad days were things do go wrong but when that happened to us we just told people "The bad days just make the good days even better". Have fun and when you get to tassie (where we are settling now) look us up and drop in for a meal, shower or do some washing if you like.

Hi Kane,
We are currently travelling Oz with 3 Kids (15, 9 & 7) we are having the time of our lives!!! (its not always easy, however any issues pop up we deal with it together as a family), We are currently into our 11th month we don't have a time limit either, we just stop for work when the $$$ run out, we are currently in
Kununurra WA and have been since July, we plan to move on in December (head for
Broome).
We have been home schooling the kids, however I (Caz) decided to work this time as
well so the kids are at the local school and are loving the experience, we will go back to home schooling once we hit the road again. Take a good
first aid kit and its always a good idea to do a 1st aid course (only takes a day) so you know how to use the stuff!!!
Our problem is (if it is a problem) is that none of us want to stop and settle down......... I guess we can keep going to we are "
Grey Nomads"!!!
Perhaps we will meet on the road sometime and share a few stories
Check out our Blog

Cheers

Hi Kane,
Some
places are easier than others to get work and you also need to keep accomm costs ect in mind - for example we were going to stop in
Darwin for work (we always stay in Caravan parks when working) Matt got offered a job, however the
park fees were almost $300 per week so we moved on to
Kununurra - we are saving money here.
Matt is a mechanic and I am a massage therapist - although at the moment I am cleaning and working in the office at the Caravan
park, we have also done fruit picking though this doesn't always pay
well, its VERY hard work and you have to be in the right place at the right time.
Forgot to mention in last post - when on the road we
free camp a LOT as parks charge heaps for kids, its also very liberating to
free camp, you meet nice like minded people ect can have a
good camp fire ect, we just pull into a town with a
laundromat once a week.
Cheers
Caroline
