Don't usually like to refer to catalogue ads , but tell me this is wrong or have Engel re-branded a chinese copy.
Repco is one of those stores I associate with doubling the price and giving you a 20% discount but we just got the latest Vic catalogue for a sale starting 1st October.
Scanned thru it , the usual hot specials like 50 amp Anderson plugs I last brought for <$10 and there's are $15 after a $6.50 discount etc.
Just about to throw it out when I see a 55lt fridge/Freezer for $799 and its advertized as a geniune compressor unit capable of 50c below ambient and the add has a big ENGEL label over it.
Well as
well as the steak knives you get a Travel bag and also a $43 LED lantern.
So whats going on here !

That's a thought Jeff , the picture shows the lid has two catches that are screwed on , and screwed on side handles - my guess is its probably metal .
If its real It will turn the Weaco Engel debate upside down , with Engel being the cheapie.

The Repco website doesn't have a current catalogue available - any chance of a scan?

I've also just seen that in their catalogue and was wondering about it. It doesn't look like any Engel that you see in the shops and the price seems to be far too cheap for a genuine Engel. I'd be interested to hear what it's all about.

Robin,
I had a brief look at this one last week at Repco FTG. It's definitely not a standard ENGEL model so I'm not sure why they have used the ENGEL logo in the advertisement. It may be "powered by" etc.
Cheers
Peter

Probably some angle like that Peter - lets hope its not the all to familiar slide as a new owner of the name etc , trades on past reputation.

I doubt that Repco would use the Engel name if it wasnt an Engel.
Its probably something made to suit the price, doesnt necessarily mean it uses the same components as the more expensive varieties of Engels.

Robin,
From Pradopoint:
I've just received the latest catalogue from Repco on page 7 is a 55L fridge freezer being passed off as an Engel with the Engel logo being used. Beware it's not an Engel but a no name chinese brand. It maybe a great fridge for $799 but it's not an Engel. I've contacted my contact at Engel and they're in the process of getting a retraction. It's very misleading. Once again maybe a great fridge but don't think your getting a cheap engel. As the saying goes you get what you pay for.

Sloppy work from Repco.
Cheers

It has different specifications to the "Down Under Fridge"
which has temperature range of -20°C to 10°C.
* this $799 Fridge goes down to -50°C *

The catalogue has just arrived and when I roll my mouse over the picture of the fridge it says
GEARUP FRIDGE
maybe it says Engel compressor but as i cant read the word I dont know but it appears to have enough letters to be that.

Don't know how long it is since you bought a 50A Anderson plug Robin but recently in JayCar and by the individual unit they are aroung $22. I buy
mine through my 4WD club who buys in bulk from JayCar for $12 each.
