Stuart
Hi all, we have been planning a trip to Deep Water NP. near Bunderberg QLD at the begining of April next year but have had a spanner thrown into the works because we have been told that the stingers are still there at that time. We still want to go but were wondering if there were safe
places for the kids to swim. Adults will be fishing. Any info about safe swimming, good fishing spots (
rock & beach) and
places of interest ( besides the Rum factory) would be much appreciated. Thanks......

I don't think the stingers come down that far south. I used to live in
Cairns, and (from my memory)
Gladstone was about as far south as they came. I know that despite the stinger problem along the
Cairns shoreline,
Green Island (and others) slightly out to sea have no such problem.
Local council in the area should be able to advise you.

Stuart I wouldn't be put off going provided you take some precautions. In
Gladstone about 10yrs ago a boy died from a box jelly fish sting so I would assume there is a possibility of them being there in April. The main cause of fatalities is from multiple stings to the body and chest area so if you make sure your childern are covered from
the neck to the knee area of the body any stings on the arms or legs will not be fatal. Study the latest
first aid for jelly fish stings and have plenty of vinegar on hand and watch the children swimming you should be adequately prepared.
