GQ 4.2 engine options

So the GQ finally needs a new engine. Unfortunately it was cooked by our daughter grrrr
What are our options?

Petrol ? - Put a holden v6 or v6
Diesel ? - All options are expensive. 4.2 from a wrecker or a late 4.2 TD if you are extremely lucky. Then without too much engineering the 3ltr Nissan, or be real daring and look at a 2.7ltr from a Ford Transit or Discovery.

You do not state which 4.2 it is?. Can you recondition the existing motor or did it get tooo hott.

Are you sure the old engine is cactus?
If so, I'd recommend a new second hand Nissan 4.2 petrol motor or a reconditioned exchange engine.
That way ther's no hassles with engineering, everything stays the same. You could even convert it to gas with help from from Kevin O Seven.
