Hi There,
We are heading up to North Stradbroke Island at Amity Point next week and having not been on this island before and was wondering if it is worth taking the kids bikes ( 2 boys aged 7 & 10yrs). Are there any good bike riding tracks that we can explore together. We are camping on the island for 1 week. Cheers.

Hello John

Its been a few years since I have been to Straddie but all the roads in and around Amity Point are bitumen.
Just south at Flinders beach there was a bush track behind the dunes that led back close to Amity.
From Flinders Beach south to Point Lookout the roads are bitumen although the old road is still there and could be used for mountain bike riding.
Al roads between Dunwich, Amity, Flinders Beach, Point Lookout, Brown Lake are bitumen and most of the bush and island tracks are sand and then there are the beaches.
There are plenty of roads to ride bikes but all the villages are on or close to the beaches.
You will have a great time. 35 years ago when I was in my early teens all the roads were gravel and sand and we used to ride our push bikes until we had motor cross bikes, home made beach buggies and then 4wd's. Wow, those were the days and bring back great memories. I used to know every person at Amity but that has all changed now.
Take a drive on the beach south of Point Lookout to Jumiping Pin bar for some beautiful dunes, beaches, swimming. A drive on the centre road to Brown Lake is nice and there used to be some very challenging sand tracks off this road through the centre of the island.

I hope you have a great holiday with the boys.

Regards
John

Johny boy,

If you are stayting at Adder rock they you're basically staying "in town". Take the kids bikes. They can ride to the shops or Point lookout. I wouldn't take the hand winch, but a snatch strap will be usefull if you plan on going on the beach. There is also a skateboard ramp near you if your kids are into that.

We will be going there next weekend (staying up the road from your campground) and won't even take the car. We'll just take the bus from the ferry.

Hope that helps.
