Hi all,
I'm packing the Cruiser and have my recovery bag in but I'm not sure if I need to take the hand winch ,its a little heavy and bulky but I really don't know what to expect on the island so do you guys think I will need it ??
Cheers.

I go to Straddie at least 6 times a year and I have never needed a winch. Drop your tyres and drive to conditions and you will be fine. I would not call it hard 4x4ing over there.
Have a blast

Simon C I just spend 11 days over on Flinders and no problems. Personally....i do not think a winch is required (never used one in the past 20 years going over there)
Just lower the tyre pressures as already mentioned. The cutting on to Flinders beach (Flinders town ship) is VERY soft. Flinders beach is blocked by trees approx 2 km north of
Adder Rock even at low tide. Watch the no drive times, and you will need a beach permit (just in case you have not been there before).
Very soft sand most of the way down Main beach, and there is/was point approx 2/3rd the way down the pin that is very narrow, and you could get trapped down the Pin if the tide is comming in.
Very little fish,
Simon C
