Due to my garage limitations - I need a powered [hand] jockey-wheel to be able to get my Jayco Dove into the garage. I have a short driveway [5 metres] uphill at 8 degrees.
I am seeking advice regarding my best options. I am aware that you can get electric addons that will power a van but they start at $2500.00.
I was at the
Melbourne Caravan Show yesterday and saw this -

Has anyone come across one of these - or can someone make another recommendation. My main concern is the jockey-wheel not 'holding' while going up the slight incline.

Interesting I am looking for something similar me self. But I don't like the jockey wheel attachment to weak, rather a tow ball attachment ! but hey at that price it may work. And a 1in 10 foot climb gradient it may have some strengh in it, And just possibly you could attach a 12 volt or 18 volt drill to replace the winch with a bit of luck and that would make it a hole lot better.

Owing to the fact that I am no longer a member I cannot post a image of how I move my 18.5' tandem van around so I'll have to do a word picture.
I use a Maco Mule ratchet jockey wheel and a Caravan and Traler Mate (CTM). The CTM fits onto the towball coupling of the caravan and the jockey wheel attaches to it.
Mine is a single wheeled Maco Mule. A dual wheeled arrangement would probably work better.
Mine works fine too though.
It is not physically hard work to move the van using the ratchet arrangement and the CTM allows me 330 degrees of turning for manouverability. It is a tad slow but not a pain.
The CTM cost around the $260 mark while the Maco Mule costs I am not sure of these days.
Would it work at 8 degrees? If its on a solid surface I can't see why not.

The hitchdrive looks good hey. I looked at one sometime ago but decided to go for a cheaper one due to money problems. I currently have a Jayco Swan that i push around in my garage with a cheap single ratchet wheel (some call them a maco mule, but the true maco
wheels are dearer - and better too) I have no worries pushing it around on flat or grass areas. I havent tried it on slopes as you mention. They are very easy to use
Just a word of caution if you try a cheaper one like
mine: i had the rim split on one before. If you use it uphill i would only use a dual wheel genuine maco model or the hitchdrive. I found
mine split just from the pressure put on it by turning the wheel as you move it. if you see one in action you would no what i mean
Be interested in hearing of your opinions of the hitchdrive if you get one. cheers....

What about a floor mounted winch possibly boat type(12vlt from about $90) at the back of the garage, not very expensive and would do the job.

Just what I was going to suggest, and they don't have an overly high current drain also so it could be powered by a spare 12v battery quite easily.

Depends on the boat winch, some come with 30amp wiring usually less powerful others with 60amp. Just do quick search and should have in the specifications for the boat winch.
