Hi All

I have just fitted an air tank under the tray of my ute ,approximately 8 litres
capacity. The tank came of a small truck and is fitted with the usual relief valve.

My only reason for fitting this is to deliver a decent amount of air for reseating tyres. I have tested the tank for this purpose an it worked well.
Yeah I know that I can use the butane cyclinder and a match but burns can be painfull and where we travel a burn could be painfull for a long time.

Customers on our tours would also take a dim view of us setting a small explosion in thier $ 350 odd tyre.

My question to all of you learnard folk is do I need to fit a Check valve to the inlet on the tank or will the one in the compressor do the job. Currently I am using an ARB compressor which fills the tank in under 4 mins.

Thank you in advance for your well informed comments

Cheers Teza

Hello Tezza, my Boss system came with a check valve, and I have read somewhere that they are needed, cannot remember exactly why.
As a side interest, what make/brand is your slide on? I want to sell my canopy and awning and get a slide on box.
Cheers

Hi Rob Mac

Thanks for your reply with the check valve, got it all sorted now.

In relation to the slideon I had it built in Maleny on QLD north coast. I saw it at a show on the sunny coast and unlike most other suppliers was more than happy to make any mods I wanted. Being made of ally built on a 25mm ally box
frames and being comprised of 5 seperate compartments means it is very light,240kg dry, your gear does't get thrown everywhere and to date I have had no issues with the structure or quality of the build. Canvas work was done by North Coast campers in conjunction with construction.
Mine has travelled just about everywhere, Cape, Canning,Simpson, Tassie you name it, no problems.
The man to contact is Darrell White in Maleny Ph 54 999250
He now markets them under Tray Tek Campers

I will try to upload photos to my profile but am really not computer savey but will have a go
.

Yes fit the check valve as this will hold the pressurized air in the tank and will not allow it to drain back through the compressor, also the compressor will not have to start under full load if it drains between comp and tank.
Marks will do my spell checking.

Hi Teza,
In my opinion the fact that you've installed one between the compressor and the receiver is of more importance than its physical location.

They are fitted so that the compressor isn't starting against a full head of pressure on its exhaust valves. I believe you've well satisfied that requirement.

Big Red Comprerssors have an internal check valve, my works well. I asume the ARB would also have one. Michael

Thanks Michael With the ARB having a small tank to feed air lockers I would think it has an internal check valve as well Just to be on the safe side I installed a check valve near the tank as per Richards drawing. This also means that if my compressor stops working the tank can be filled directly through the outlet.
