Austravel
Hi,
Already had some helpful tips and hope you can keep up the info.
Taking 3mths off to see all of SA, hopefully at a reasonable pace. Have 4x4 and off road camper trailer. Two people and maybe a second vehicle but not counting on it. Heading off in March returning end of May, let's say one week either side for set up and clean up. So I have approx 10 weeks. Can leave from
Longreach (preferable) or down through NSW and VIic.
Have already done
Birdsville (plus desert) to
Marree (plus lake Eyre) to
Coober Pedy and then north so thinking of leaving this section.
Want to cover as many NP's as possible, dirt roads if to a destination ok (ie not just for the sake of it), 4x4ing even better, desert and beach. Would like to cover as much if not all of SA and even some towns/cities if the time. Have a list of the top ten 4wd adventures from a book but who knows if they are ok.
So over to you guys that either live there or "been there and done it". Am really keen to hear of
places to go, circuits to do, place not to go, don't care if I need to pay for entry etc, etc. I know your secret spot is out of the question but suggestions on tracks (private or public), NP's, circuits etc, etc would be great.
Any help very much appreciated.

Suggest you contact relevant State Tourist group(s). It's called research very satisfying and fulfilling.

Thanks DIO, have been researching trips for many many years. In fact I think using Ex Oz for research is a great option what do you think? you know speaking to people that live in the area and have
views on their area, you know, what that might be called "research"!!
I'll keep my actual thoughts to myself at the present but I gather you can guess what I'm thinking right now.
Thanks for the input though............................not!

Well done Austravel, I would have not been able to stop myself using derogatory comments in response to DIO's mindless drivel.
Obviously DIO's definition of satisfying and fulfilling is firing off sharp (dim)witted responses dripping with vitriol.

As a resident and active 4wd'er and camper I can recommend Skytrek in the Flinders (
camping and a bit of a test in your vehicle - costs $ though).
Explore all of the Flinders options including the obvious Wilpena, Rawnsley etc but also
Blinman,
Arkaroola and
Bendleby. Try this site and google for details. All worth a look and a
camp.
Arkaroola is a long way from anywhere but you could hook into it with careful route planning. A bit rough but spectacular. Once again be prepared to spend $.
Further south the River Murray has a few spots still available for
free camping. Others can advise you of their favourites in the Riverland but we have enjoyed Overland Corner and
Gluepot (fees payable).
Mannum is a great spot and you can't miss out on the
Fleurieu especially
Goolwa,
Port Elliot and Mclaren Vale (good van parks).
In
Adelaide there are a number of good van parks (check your guide). I like
West Beach, Belair and Marion. Don't forget Mclaren Vale for wines as
well as the Barossa (
Tanunda van
park).
Much further south
Robe is a must. Three good parks to choose from or you can rough it in the dunes.

Hi Austravel
We have found SA to be the most under-rated state for tourism. We have only seen a little of it so far, but loved everything we have seen.
Check out MyBlogs for the 2005 tour of the Eyre Peninsular, and 2006 when we went through SE of SA on our way to Tasmania, and included the
Fleurieu Peninsular, Northern Flinders and
Woomera.
We will be heading back through SA soon, and look forward to finding a few more different
routes before
Port Augusta and the Nullabor on the way home.

Thanks Motherhen. Can you help me to find your
blogs? Haven't done this before and not sure how to do it. Do you mean the
blogs on this site? If so I couldn't see how to search for yours.

Yes, but i am not sure the best way to access. Try pulling up my profile and see if
blogs are listed. They are listed by date, so need to pick dates on calendar to get right ones.

The Flinders and
gammon Ranges (
Arkaroola and surrounds) are a must see and you can spend several weeks there alone. Both areas have some good 4WD tracks.
If you like beaches then the west coast of the Eyre peninsula IMHO has some of the best in the world. Km's of pristine sand with clear blue/green waters very few people to annoy you and bloody good salmon fishing.
While you are over that way you can also do
Googs Track from
Ceduna to
Tarcoola and then head home from there.
That's a very broad picture and the latter part takes you a long way from home.
You can check this site plus google for the finer details

Thanks Brenton will put them on my list.
Your profile pic reminds me of the same predicament I was in a while ago. Went to the aid of some others bogged and in the end wished I hadn't. Once you've broken through it's a major job to get out.
