I've just got back from 3 weeks on Double Island Beach, and I'm seriously fearful about 4WDing continuing there in the long term future.

Some of the things I saw include..

A bunch of young halfwits having a doughnut competition on the beach while other vehicles were trying to get past.

Vehicles flying through a crowded beach full of kids and toddlers.

A police speed camera booking every second 4WD in the 50 zone at Teewah.

At the 3rd cutting, some genius had put a soccer ball sized rock between the wheel ruts. I hit it with my bash plate, and removed it, but the next day it was back there...

Enjoy this area while you can, because these fools will be the ones who get it closed off for everybody.

Greg..

Greg, the idiots never cease to amaze me. Deliberately placing a rock like that is criminal, akin to dropping a rock from an overpass. Pity they couldn’t be identified.
I think you’re right about the future access of the area. Another bugbear of mine is the amount of litter left behind. Why would you go to beautiful place only to destroy it?
I think there is talk about introducing permits to drive the beach…. I hope the fee is put to good use.
Myles.

There has been talk of permits for a long time and it got serious about a year or so ago - unfortunately it hasn't happened. I think commercial operators like the ferry were baulking at the standard epa vehicle permit cost of $38/month minimum. I think it needs to be high enough to deter all these yobbos.
