After an enjoyable holiday on South Stradbroke Island we returned to the ferry terminal to find our troopy had been broken into.
It looks like they used a big screw driver and a hammer.
The GPS was hidden, but they found it. We left no tell tale circle on the window.
The GPS was the only thing taken. Now I have to buy another.
We did have a Garmin nuvi 760 and I was going to look for the same one on ebay, but my daughter says a Tom Tom is just as good. Does anyone know what model TomTom would be equivelent?

None probably as they are a lot harder to hack
If you had off road stuff on yours buy another one I guess
I have a Tomtom Go 730 and its better than the Garmin Nuvi I had as far as highway driving is concerned

I trust you didn't have your home programmed into it, or
routes etc. that would indicate your home or other useful addresses.
If so, then advise your local (to home) police. It's a fairly common trick, knowing you're on hols, to use the stolen GPS to deliver them to your unoccupied home and an even more lucrative haul...
I'm afraid I can't offer advice on the Garmin / Tom Tom issue.

well known urban legend.

Hi BooBoo,
sorry to hear the bad news, it is most frustrating that low-lifes do this sort of animal act. There is a nuvi 760 for sale on the trader which may be of interest. Seems to have all the the extras except a beer tap.

We normally do, but for some reason swmbo decided it would be safe in the glove box.

I've heard that the glovebox is the first place crooks look for things like that - particularly if they had been watching you as you prepared to board the ferry...

Hi Boo Boo,
sorry to hear about the break-in; should be allowed to tar and feather the illegitimates, if they ever get caught.
cheers

Sorry to hear of your loss, we will never be able to totally protect ourselves from theives, if only they put as much energy to being legitimate as they do to being crooked....
What ever you do choose to replace it with make sure it has the pin code immobilisation as a funtion. If you dont know the code only the manufacturer can reset it with proof of purchase.
My Garmin Nuvi is registered with Garmin and pin-coded so I fee happy that if it were ever lost or stolen it is worthless to anyone else.
If we only support Manufacturers that have codes...they will ALL be made with them, ending the spate of thefts.
Oh and for a replacement...EVERY
forum I researched that did side-by-side testing on comparative models of City Navigators...agreed that performance wise the NUVI wins hands down.
I chose the NUVI 500 for the option of addtional mapping (Ozi, marine, Shonky) plus its waterproof and has long battery life.
Matt.

Well I had the lock fixed at toyota here in
Dalby.
The mechanic told me I would have to replace all 4 locks as they only came in sets.
We had a little discussion about this and ended up going to see the bloke that actually ordered the parts. He said I could buy seperately and that he had one in stock.
$240 and one hour later I had the lock fitted. I can imagine the cost for a set!
Thanks for the sympathy fellas, it is appreciated. It is definitely not a nice feeling when your car is broken into an things stolen.
