Hi all,

Don't want to sound too much like a pu*#y, but just bought a nice tidy Prado and have always wanted to take a look at Wilbinga area and head on down to the beach there.

Can any Westozys tell me is the trek in scratchy, is there a lot of scrub overgrowth on the sides of the trek or is it pretty much clear.

Don't want to be polishin out cat scratches on the new girl just yet.
Got a mate that wants to tag along and he is thinkin the same.

Cheers
Hally

Hi there Hally. We were out there last year on a 4wd course and some parts were fairly overgrown, however depends on which tracks you take. If you just head straight to the beach then it's not too bad. We headed north through the tracks and that is where it was worst.
Have fun

tracks everywhere - your biggest issue will be getting lost - didnt see any scratchy ones but im sure if you looked hard enough you could find some

Nah you shouldnt have any probs...we do overnighters there all the time and its a blast.

Watch out for busy times...the worst possible would be a head on coming over a crest so take it easy (there are some revheads there at times) on approach.

Im sure you have a snatch strap and compressor (its a fair drive to the servo without a compressor, not safe or good for the tyres) that way even if you are alone you are pretty set(wont need to borrow a strap if you do get a little delayed).

Last take a spare garbage bag...we always manage to come off the dunes with twice as much rubbish as we headed in with. Still amazes me that people treat a nice place as a rubbish dump...guess they have only lived in WA and dont appreciate how great it is to be able to free beach drive, camp and fish within an hour of a capital city.

All the best and enjoy.

Matt.

Hi Matt,
Wouldn't go anywhere without the trusty compressor and recovery gear.

Definately will take the big green bag and agree whole heartedly, just don't know how people can disrespect these places without a second thought.

Thanks for the info mate
Cheers

Be careful about camping there Matt as it's definitely forbidden by the Gin Gin shire.
I checked with them recently for a young rellie and his mates and they say that they are increasing ranger patrols due to dune damage and rubbish left by users generally.
Looks like they may go the same way as Wanneroo and other shires and ban beach and driving through the area completely.
Enjoy it while you can.
Alan.

Yes Alan...sad isnt it...People give the councils all the reason they need to close access to beautiful areas.

The no-camping one is a shock though...I made the mistake of camping there over an easter weekend and the number of people camping would be in the hundreds. We drove for hours looking for a non-occupied spot and finally stopped just before the Moore River.

I have also NEVER seen a ranger in the area at all. Compared to Preston beach (south) the ranger does a few drives up and down the beach daily to ensure all are abiding by the no fire, no dune camping and no motorbike rules. Still a great spot.

Alas your "enjoy it while you can" is spot on and all we can do now apart from lobbying for access to remain and joining in the clean up Aust campains.

All the best

Matt.
