Sir Kev & Darkie
Well, what a great week :))
I would like to thank all those who attended the EO National Gathering in
St George last week.
The participation for you all made the long hours of lead up work worthwhile, I hope you all enjoyed yourselves.
I will do the Trip Report in the very near future, but I will need to gain some photos from those who attended as I took absolutely NONE LOL as I was a tad busy hehehe
I have recieved some great ones from Matt and Julie already so for those who wish to add their photos of the Gathering in the Trip report please upload them to this thread and I will add them :))
I had an eventful return trip today with the dog as Sam and the kids returned on Friday.
I seem to have a thing with return trips from National Gatherings as Last year I hit a Very Large Kangaroo on the return trip. This year I blew/destroyed a rear drivers side tyre on Darkie, just north of
Taroom.

Amazingly the inner belts held together so I could still drive on it.

It was a comedy of errors when the tyre let go as I was going down
hill in a large cutting with nowhere to pull over. Luckily there was no one following so I stopped in the middle of the road to check it out. I then crawled down the road till I found somewhere to safely get off the road to change the tyre.
Once back on the road I came across a Road Train Accident 28 kms south of Theredore. It was a full load of Cotton Seed that had rolled and was completely blocking both directions. To get around I had to go off track. From what I could see the driver was out and about being checked by the Ambos.
So now it is a case of finally buying those new tyres BFG here I come LOL
Cheers Kev

Kev,
Good to hear that you have arrived home in one piece which is more than you can say for the tyre.
From a few post already on the
forum it sounds like a great time was had by all.

Wayne,
The dog is still a bit shakey as the rear sheet metal mudguard of the tray has been neatly folded and crushed up under the tray LOL She was very keen to get out while I changed the tyre LOL
I have been told by Sam that I am not to organise another Gathering this large by myself AGAIN LOL
I haven't told her I am on the organising committee for
Wiluna hehehe
Cheers Kev

I am now going to bite the bullet and get all 5 tyres changed to BFG AT's, I always said that once one went Bang they all would be replaced. I am glad Sam wasn't in the car with me as it was a wild ride for a few moments, as I had Darkie up to the $110 mark with the camper in tow down
hill LOL
Cheers Kev

Bathurst early.
Happy it did not get any worse for you & you arrived home safe in on piece.

K,
You don't need that stuff. All tyres are warranteed against manufacturing defects.
Your tyre has suffered tread separation - a major safety issue.
Google "Tread separation Cooper tires" and see how many hits come up!
And
well done with your organisation and work you put into the National Gathering!! I'm sure the many members who couldn't be there appeciate your good work.
Cheers
Phil

Phil and Others,
I have just recieved a reply email from Mr Coopers.
I am to take the said tyre to their local dealer and also fill out an incident report and get 2 written quotes for the repair of the damage. Which will in turn be assessed by their Claims department. To determine if it was a tyre fault or User error prior to replacing/fixing the damage.
Thanks for the great advise to contact Mr Cooper.
Cheers Kev

Must be something to do with
Taroom for us Banana Benders. Last time I went through that place I got booked for doing 153kph then hit an Echidna and wrecked a brand new tyre not far up the road...mongrel town if you ask me LOL!!!
Glad you made it
home and thanks again for yours and Sam's efforts.
Trevor.

Thanks Kev, and a big thank you to Sam.
Make sure you pass it on, she didn't get too much of a say in being involved at a guess?
Colette says she did a mighty job keeping all us big kids organised.
Good to see you did get
home.
Keeping out of the coopers debate. I did get one set replaced under warranty, and haven't gone back, but for others they work
well. Might be the driving style or the vehicle.
Have some photos of the official heckler in his best garb I will forward.

John,
It was great fun organising and running the Gathering, a bit stressful when things didn't go as smoothly as planned ;)
I will probably do another one Solo again but not in the near future hehehe
Michelle is chief organiser of the 2010 National Gathering
A National Gathering in 2011 organised by me maybe hehehe
Dave B is thinking of organising a 2012 National Gathering in
Broken Hill
It would be good to see Gatherings for National Gathering Status created with plenty of time in advance so that people can plan for them, especially those in the more remote areas.
Cheers Kev

Kev,
I think you are a bit like me. Sometimes find it easier to do most things yourself.
But I have found from experience that involving others is important. It does raise stress levels, and communications problems are a part of it, but it does make it easier on the day.
Also means others get to know what happens, and may step forward in future to lead. Others may volunteer to do a minor part for now, but will take more on next time if the support is there.
Think we need to find a range of skills, and they won't be in the same person. Organisers (john T?), relational people for getting people involved and building community (scrubby and bill?), people who can do things on the fly to help fill in the gaps (organisers nightmares, but useful), some technical people, and well travelled people, and some people like Ray who are good at telling yarns. Each will be quite willing to do what they are comfortable with, but may baulk if out of thier comfort zone.

Thanks again for a great week, Kev.
That's definitely a delamination which Cooper should replace with no questions.
An interesting observation from the gathering for all the Cooper bashers out there, at a rough estimate approx 40% of the vehicles in attendance had Coopers on them, more by far than any other brand.

Noticed that too, so the brand most likely to have a failure would be --- Coopers.
Just from the numbers being used.
