This is how our “Traveller Pure Magic” turned into a “nightmare”. On September the 4th we picked up our new traveller caravan from the dealer and to our surprise it was delivered with the following faults;

1. Air conditioner did not work with remote.
2. The microwave cooker did not work.
3. The water level gauge did not work.
4. The BBQ is not piped.
5. The generator door would not open. It was jammed shut.
6. The reverse camera did not work.
7. The edging fell off the sink cover.
8. The shower door was not locked shut during transport to the dealer and the door has damaged the en suite wall.
9. The water tanks would not fill at any thing faster than a slow dribble.
10. The battery charger keeps turn off.
11. Two of the curtains keep falling off.
12. Water leaks at the hot water heater and some fittings under the van.
13. The light over the table is missing the cover and the glass.

But more importantly the van towed like a snake, so much so that my wife did not want to travel to our destination in the same car. The dealer advised “you will need to fill the water tanks, that will assist in stopping the snaking and you will need to a set of sway bars they will assist as well.” None of this was mentioned at the time of sale or delivery, by the time I was experiencing the snaking, I am on my way home some 450 klms away and its after 5.00pm on a Friday night, so the availability of these items are nil.

Traveller would not book the van in for repairs until the 28 of September to rectify these faults, at this stage it was the 7th, we were very disappointed as we had just purchased our dream van and we cannot use it.

After waiting the 24 long days, I delivered the van to Traveller in Melbourne and waited for the repairs to be carried out, was I shocked when they started to hack into the wall panels without any respect for my new caravan, this was greatly distressing to see, the hacking/ripping of the panel went on and on until they decided to replace the camera lead, then they drilled multiple 2inch holes in the chassis and under the rear of the van trying find a way to route this new lead, eventually they removed the mirror hacked a hole for the wire and fitted a camera. I was then sent away and did not see the final repairs carried out, some repairs are yet to be done but I think I may do them my self.

Next morning I found that to repair the water gauge they removed the sender, cleaned it and refitted it, which solved the gauge fault but it leaked a lot of water, so we had a look at repairing this to save driving back to Melbourne and you will not believe what we found, the gauge sender was inserted in a hole without any way of securing it or any ability seal, all Traveller did was to apply a hand full of selastic in the hope that this would solve the problem of leaking water and would assist in securing the sender and of course it did not.

The end result is that I do not have a van that I can tow with any confidence, I still have outstanding repairs and I am yet to use this van. I have lost the enjoyment and the pure magic of this purchase.

Gooday SJD (Well..! maybe it's not a "good" day)
1) get onto consumer affairs immediately
2) take photos of everything
3) in your daily diary.. document everything, and I mean everything... what you said, they said, what they did or didn't do
4) tell them you have gone to consumer affairs AND you want to be reimbursed for all your costs
5) do NOT give up or give in
6) if worst come to worst.. file claim in small claims court (no lawyers involved) and in all likely hood they will have to pay.
All the best with it. Sorry you have had such a rough time of it.
regards
Fred B

hi
to all who read this thread
goto www.travellercaravans.com.au and read there - what we do - section well
strike me down it's an utter contradiction in word play and i would recommend the troubled owner above to down load a couple of copies of this tripe and take with him to consummer affairs it's the best fighting evidence you could have to back up the shoddy workmanship given to youin your van
the proof of any pie is in the consumption of !!

or if you wanted to do it all without leaving your PC...

A) Make an online ACCC complaint based on it being an unservicable/unsellable item.
B) Put it on U-tube, pics the defects,
C) Put it on ebay, list the defects and advertise it at its Reccommended Retail Price,
D) Link the ebay and u-tube listing
H) Dont give up

Some people i know with a fifth-wheeler got fuel, food and accomodation costs re-inbersed by the company without making any official complaints...but it shouldnt matter how much youve spent....

How is it companies think they can get away with this...

Under the Trade Practices Act you're entitled to a FULL REFUND if the goods are not of merchantable quality, not fit for purpose, or not as described.

hi SJD
so sorry to read a thread like this it's disgusting in this day and age
but very enlightening for others and will serve as a deterent for anyone who may have been considering one of these brands word of mouth is the best advertising so in the long run they will pay the pennalty

i would even consider giving it to a current affairs if they dont come good through the advised and normal channels but even then it will always be in the back of your mind the knowledge of what they have hacked into and how long will it be before stress and fatique set into those areas and create futher problems on aussie road that you travel ( i would personely want to return it for a full refund Tmho)
you have been delivered a van from a company which obviously does not have a quality controller within there ranks otherwise this van would n't have got to the delivery stage with all these problems through the system no bugger cares about the product quality or the companies future

likes already been said take them to the cleaners through cons- affrs your lucky/unlucky? that you saw what you did before being sent away they are rough as guts with there remedies as well
shows what sort or level of workers and management they have good luck and dont give into them
good luck

Hi There,

Hang in there - you will get to enjoy your dream, don't let it ruin the magic. We to had HUGE issues, we sold our home and wanted to travel long term in a van withour kids.

We purchased the van brand new (not much change from $100K) van late last year I will just list the problems below:

no bulbs in tail or indicator lights
Had gas issues and discovered we had 2005 gas bottles on our van which filled all the lines with black goo
A/C died at Longreach
Fridge died at Bundaberg
We are on our 4th gas regulator
Hot water system leaked (twice)
toilet flusher motor died
toilet flap thingy broke
mattress has springs poking through
table is bowed (makes for interesting home schooling)
have just paid $50 to send TV back to QLD for repairs under warranty
Jockey wheel has had it already
hang rail in one cupboard is not long enough

The RV co we brought it from couldn't care at all.

This particular van co sell the warranty to a warranty co. all issues have been fixed under warranty, however I would not buy a van from a co that sells the warranty again. It is VERY disappointing and I (Caz) have never cried so much in the 1st few mths of owning this van, it totally stuffed up our travel plans as we had to go where they said to fix all these issues (we were in Tannum sands and had to go all the way BACK to Bundy to get the fridge fixed - who was going to pay for all that diesel???? US. I also wrote a letter to the actual van co and we were compensated.

My Theory is our van was built on a Friday afternoon around 3pm!!!

Try keep your chin up and it will get sorted, keep on there backs and as others have said go to consumer affairs if you have no joy.

Cheers (we will see you on the trouble free road ASAP)

Hi SJd
At least you still have your caravan, not like Viscount where our new Caravan went in for warrenty work the list was too long to print.
Was offered a new caravan as replacement in 6 weeks time, after 2 years and the companies going broke twice no caravan.
You may ask how come I was so stupid, 29 other people were also caught.
One towed their caravan to the factory was given the same offer and when he said that he would leave the caravan overnight while he went home to talk to his wife (100 klms) away, he came back the next day his caravan was gone shipped interstate and sold.
Only got $30,000 compensation from Fair trading from the dealer except the dealer did not pay up.
Viscount broke again owing believed $3m which included suppliers.
Make sure any warrenty work you get your caravan back.
Regards
Ted

Hi SJD.

I cant believe you have all those problems, which is really bad. BUT. We have just picked our new Traveller up (18th September), a 29 foot, absolutely beautiful van. We are so happy with it,and we have just had 10 days away in it, and yes the only fault we can see is the damn microwave does not work. Maybe they need to change their brand of microwave if yours does not work too/ But then we dont blame Traveller for that as it is not "their" brand or workmanship that is at fault. Admittedly we travelled home last week on some very rough, narrow roads, to give the cruise master suspension a try out and the glass in the downlight above the sink did fall out, but I just clipped it back into place. We were hooking in though and it was a damn rough road, so we were happy with that, considering the road we were on. And the overall size of the van.The van is set up to live in permanately as we will be travelling Australia as soon as our house is sold, and really we are so happy with it.

It toes equally as well with out the stabilisers as what it does with them on, even with empty water tanks. It comes in at a weight of 3.3 tonne fully loaded, so we are really impressed with the weight of it for the size of the van. We had the roof made 4 inched higher as Geoff is quiet tall, and we also had the bigger ensuite as we have a full size front loader in the ensuite.

That is really bad news about yours and you must be so disappointed. It is a lot of money to invest and to have that many problems would break your heart. I dont know what we would have done if we had all those problems as we are in Wagga and it is not a 2 hour drive to Melbourne as you know. We hope you can work it out with the guys down there, and they get everything fixed for you.

Good luck with it.
Karen and Geoff
