I'm thinking of buying a Jayco Expanda Pop Top with the Hard Lids at each end. I've been told that when packing up the ends and the canvas is wet the internal bedding is likely to get wet as
well. Also that there is a possibility of a build up of internal condensation. Has anyone experienced these situations?
regards
Danny

Hi dosmos i have a expanda single end bed 14.2 outback had it for 12 months been on quite a few trips, many of which folded up bed end wet , did not experiance wet bedding, set back up at home to dry canvas straight away no problems, with the condensation have not experianced any, but what we do is leave the poptop fly beneath the awning open which creates an air flow. heading to tasmania for 6 months on 26th october will experiance more then

Thanks for the reply. Another manufacturer's sales person told me they leaked and/or got bedding wet when folding up etc.. Have a good TAS trip.

Hi Dosmos, I'm currently in
Port Douglas in my Expanda 16-49-3 HL Outback.
Having driven here from
Hobart I can tell you they are a great van. I had to have a few shakedown tours round Tassie before we came to the big island for two months. Every time we took it out in Tas it bucketed down. Not a drop of
water on the beds even when folding up. Slight condensation in the mornings, but considering it was 3 degrees outside it was expected.
I saw a comment on another
forum that they were noisy when it rains because of the fibreglass roof over the beds.........wrong! There is more noise from the roof in heavy rain ,in the beds you'd hardly know it was raining.
Mine has now done approx 5000 kms since new and the only thing I've had to put back in was one screw in a drawer slide after the Leichhardt Highway North of Moree. Was like trying to drive on a trampoline.

If your budget allows for it, look at the Outback version of whatever model you decide on. The extra ground clearance is great. No worrying about dragging the back end anywhere. Have made a couple of sites I've stopped at into 'drive throughs' without any hassles. I've seen quite a few on-road vans drag their back ends out of servo driveways this trip.
