I find myself needing an alternator for my wife's Jeep Grand Cherokee
The local dealer here in
Townsville said there is none in the country and if there was it would cost me $2900.
Tried Google and there are plenty for the petrol models for around $200 U.S but nowhere can I find one for the 5 cylinder 2.7 litre diesel
It is actually the clutch in the alternator that spat the dummy, but not sure if I can get that separately
Anyone with some tips or advice would be appreciated
Cheers Ray

Thanks Derek, not sure if 2.5 litre and 2.8 litre is same as 2.7 litre but will chase it up
As an aside to this post, I will be in touch with you as it looks like I do need the Tekonsha brake controller I emailed you about recently.
As when I disconnect it I don't get flat batteries, so figure it must have a short somewhwere.

No problem, we will forward it back to Ashdown-Ingram and they will check it out.

If you take the alternator to an auto elec they should be able to source a pulley for you and fit it. All they need is the numbers off the front of the pulley, if they cann't MM me and I will see if there is a cross reference to it and get back to you possibly with a QLD supplier

Murray
A local auto elec looked at it last week and said it was a common fault and told me to ring the local Jeep dealer , hence the $2900 quote.
Maybe I should try another auto elec
Will keep you in mind Murray and thanks

Thanks Teza, just wondering how long a 2nd hand part would last as opposed to spending the money on a new one
Thanks anyway

Chances are you should be able to by a new alternator clutch pulley assemble from Jeep.
Most alternator clutch pulley assembles only last about 90000 kilometers and need to be replaced.
You have to use a special tool to remove and replace the alternator clutch pulley as there is a very good chance of damaging the alternator and pulley if not done right.
I doubt you will not be able to get a replacement aftermarket here in Australia but in the USA they should be available.
We have only just seen the Denso ones come available as a replacement.

Olcoolone, found some pulleys on ebay and some other sites, but they don't seem to be suitable for the 2.7 litre diesel, plenty for the petrol models and only about $200 U.S.
Will try Jeep themselves if all else fails
