Or should i say plastic bits of crap!!
Very poor protection underneath, Anyone fitted something a bit more realistic? Whilst doing a oil change to-day i was a bit concernrd how the mounting bolts had loosened and just how flimsy the the set up is!.
Cheers Axle.

Yep i smashed
mine to bits, replaced it with a TJM 1/4" thick steel plate and the matching trans sump guard also. i manufactured my own plate between the bullbar and the engine plate.

I have TJM sump and transmission bash plates. Check that the sump plate isn't hitting the sump,
mine was and it hadn't been hit by anything. I ended up hooking the winch cable onto each side in turn and just giving it a little tug to get it a few mm off the sump.
It looks like it doesn't hit, but with one of the front
wheels off and looking side on to it you can see that it is only about 1/4 of a mm away from the sump.
Now it has 1/2 inch clearance.
Cheers
Dave

G'day Axle,
I lost the flimsy bit of cr@p a few years ago after a bolt loosened causing an 'ear' of the plate to catch on an erosion mound.
I replaced it with a steel one from TJM - under $300 and made to fit - just add a bit of lock-tite when fitting.

This is the TJM link to their bash plates I have heard that they are no longer manufacturing these so you may have issues in getting one :(
As an alternate, contact Darren at Autocraft in Vic for one that they have developed. See LCOOL for more details.
Cheers Kev

Overpriced plastic cars? Whaddya want bashplates for? Isn't the Tojo only a shopping trolley?...LOL
I always remove bash plates from my 4bies to circumvent the possibility of a chassis fire when out driving in the sticks

Hello all,
The 105 (rigid front axle) does have a substancial bash plate - although the one
under the transer\gearbox is a bit flimsy.
The IFS version has the bash plate - or lack of - you refer to.
My thoughts are that Toyota realised that a lot of people buying these did
not go "rock hopping".
Cheers...

I replaced
mine with this one from Darren at Autocraft. I don't have covers over the trans to minimse heat soak, but the guard rails extend back past the trans and the trans itself is tucked up above the chassis rails. I've seen the TJM ones and they look really good too and are cheaper.

the trans sump maybe above(
well above) the chassis but i still punched
mine in and a nice hole, luckily i checked and noticed otherwise it would have been dead auto for me. that is why i suggest a trans sump guard as it IS possible to do damage these items.

Axle,
Jason at Total Care 4WD at Seven Hills did
mine in 2mm checkerplate. Been hit a couple of times and has done the job.
