Did anyone catch the Medical Emergency show on Ch7 last night? One of the stories was some Vic CFA guys who rolled their landcruiser down an embankment whilst driving a remote track at night. It was amazing to see anyone survived as the thing was crushed and bent in the middle.

What was really interesting though was one of the guys in the crash who said that their cargo barrier in the back saved them as it was the only thing keeping the roof up. You could see that the roof was almost crushed to the doors and that the cargo barrier was in fact keeping the roof up.

When fitting one of these, it's not a benefit most people would consider.

Followed a Defender that rolled several times in front of me about ten years ago. The only thing that saved them was the cargo barrier. I have two in my Troopy, front and middle.

I agree!

My wife was saved from serious injury 5 years ago when she rolled our GQ. The cargo barrier prevented the roof from collapsing. The top of the barrier was "stamped" into the headlining!

Wouldn't dream of driving off road without one.

Cheers

Rossco,

you can see from the pic here that the backboard/rollbar stopped the cab of this Cruiser being crushed. The chassis let go instead, admittedly if the operator of the Bogger didn't pull up there would have been no more cab.

Rossco,

Not sure if they still do but Milford used to have pics on their website showing a few serious rollovers and the only thing holding the roof off the occupants was the cargo barrier.

It was used as a sales pitch and quite rightly.

Matt.

Hi Rossco, was that the one that rolled for 200 metres, according to news report, and rolled end for end 10 times. Report said, if it could be believed, that the track was best described as a goat track. They were right there as you would heve to be a goat to take your vehicle up or down such an incline. Ive got a very steep track up the back mountain on our place and is a bit hairy but nothing like the one reported. As I said, if the report can be believed.
Regards, Bruce.

the guys where driving out to guide another group to our hut/campsite,it is a steep track and they saw the other group's lights thru the darkness and in the split second of looking across valley at them they missed a left hairpin bend and the ride began,no speed,no grog just a momentary lapse, the whack across the base of the windscreen was from a tree they hit about 8' in the air......most of the gear behind the barrier was ok.
