My brother took his 2006 GU into the local Nissan dealership recently for some warranty work. The heater controls were inoperable. It took two days to dismantle the entire dashboard and discover a AAA battery jammed in one of the heater controls. Unfortunately his claim that "it must have been left in there during manufacture" could't be substantiated because the battery was branded "IKEA".. Total cost of repairs.............$900.
The dashboard that once resembled a rubbish tip is now kept so clean you can eat your dinner off it.
To rub salt into a very infllamed wound he now has a rattle behind the dash that is about to "tip him over the edge".
MORAL OF THE STORY - KEEP THE TOP OF YOUR DASH CLEAN.

So why is this a "warranty sting" ?
If you left the windows down and washed the car, would you want new seats under warranty ????

$900 and two days to pull a dashboard apart sounds like a "sting."

Yeah. It is hard to find someone who knows what they're doing.

$900 sounds very reasonable to me.
Considering you probably have to degas the aircon then regas, drain cooling system remove heater/air-con evap etc Of course if all this needed doing i would expect a bill probably $500 more expensive than $900 so it would really depend on at which stage the offending battery was found.

We've had smoke come out of the dash twice courtesy of the kids, once from coins being put into the CD slot and once from coins being put into our multi 12V adaptor... Lesson learnt: Keep
young kids and loose change out of the front of the car!
Both times the kids managed to short out wiring that was at lower amperage rating than the fuse, so they fried the circuits in the CD player and the adaptor rather than blowing the fuse... Did allow me to get a nice new stereo with USB jack, etc at least! :-)

BTW, how does one get coins placed by little hands out of the CD player when it's integrated into the dash and it looks like only full removal of the dash would expose the bit behind where the CD's go in?
Just curious is all...
