Does anyone FREE anchor at rottnest and if so which are the best spots and which are your favourites and why. By FREE i mean not on a mooring.
I know where some of the official spots are but do see a lot of boats in other areas and was wondering about safety and access to shops and the islands transport. Somewhere quiet (quiet at rottnest in summer yeah right).flat and out of the wind(yes i know it depends on the wind direction) but sometimes the best spots are not obvious.
Thankyou Brendan m

breeze only comes from southerly quarter in summer so northern side only. I thought there was no anchoring at Rotto only moorings?

what about the nighttime/morning easterlies? or are they only an issue in the foot hills and die off by the time they hit the coast?

Wind in summer at home usually hits 50kph most nights and regulary gets up around 80

theyre usually more SE, though very strong easterlies are not uncommon. Always die off around lunchtime for a lovely arvo

There are plenty of spots at rotto. You need to be more specific! ..
You can anchor in many bays, eg Purpoise or the Parker Point side
with a westerly or north westerly to north easterly. Horseshoe bay is small
but good. At Thompson Bay you can beach anchor with boats below 7m or you
can anchor anywhere past the army jetty. Go to the website and download
the boating guide. It will tell you most things.
good luck . c ya in rotto :)) .. I am diving at rotto whenever the weather is half decent.
good luck

No free moorings but plenty of anchor locations. My folks often use Stark Bay on the northern side or Porpoise Bay on the southern side depending on the wind. There's a bus services that does a lap of the island every hour or so (I think...) - a good way to get into the shops for supplies, etc when needed.

Hey Hairy, I read somewhere in the rules that it's OK to post boating topics provided you tow said boats with a 4WD?

Cheers.

ExploreoZ - WHO SAID IT HAD TO BE IN A CAR? :-)))

We boat to places where cars can not get, so it seems relevant to me :-)

Half there luck, but I prefer the sheltered waters of the Qld GB Reef more than that open WA coast.

Or ask which fridge is best on marine dc power or which tyre is best on trailer for non cement slipways.

PARKER POINT
12/15ft deep ,sandy bottom so good holding ,crystral clear water plenty of whiting and the local rays clean up the heads and bones after breaky. Week days quiet weekend different matter.
