Hi all:

I have just discovered that one of the rear Firestone airbags on my 80 Series is leaking.

The leak is at the insert into the bag, where the airline connects. I have checked, and it is not the airline, but the thing that goes into the airbag to which the airline is connected. I tried a few quick remedies (teflon tape etc) but nothing has stopped the leaking.

Just wondering if someone can recommend a fix. It will need to be something that can handle a bit of flexing as I imagine these things can contort a bit on rough roads.

Thanks in advance.

Took a look at it. Thanks for posting it.Mine are already installed, and are a bit different to those one .. it is a bag inside the coil spring.

I have tracked the leak (usi9ng soapy water) and just need to seal that part up. I might be able to use some silicone sealant, but thought there may be another school of thought. Worst case scenario is to buy another bag, but would prefer to avoid that if possible.

Thanks for your interest.

Cheers

Why not contact the supplier - may be a warranty job and if that doesn't apply they may know how to fix it. Surely yours isn't the first to leak!

I may give that a try Graham. Only problem I see is that I have had them for about 2 years and only got around to installing them about a month ago.

Still, as they say in the classics, 'nothing ventured, nothing gained'.

Thanks

Struth you're not having much luck with these airbag thingies OBJ. Could you possibly have cross threaded a connecter (if they have them) that holds the air line in?

As above - a small amout of tyre slime was the best thing I did to the bags on a previous vehicle.

Have a look at http://www.truckspring.com/coil-rite-replacements_1029.html . Measure your bags to get the right size , with the exchange rate with the US dollar at the moment you should be able to get two new ones for about $50 Australian

I heard of a quick or temporary fix on a desert trip once the tour guide/tag a long man produced a tin of vaccum sealed tennis balls when an air bag failed in the rear of a Nissan Patrol. Apparently they jacked it up and inserted the tennis balls. It worked.

Hi Jack,
i had the same problem just after fitting mine. i rang the company i bought it off and they said "take the hose off and trim it so it is exactly square" i did that and no more leaks.
