I might be wrong, but I think there is a camping permit required for Qld side if you want to camp (Simpson Desert National Park). Must camp within 500m of QAA line. The SA Desert Parks Pass is for Simpson Desert Conservation Park which allows entry to the SA area of the desert and includes French, Rig and K1 routes.
So a day trip along QAA out and back without camping doesn't require a pass.

Gidday Steve

Quite frankly I would'nt be bothered. Quite a few years back I could'nt see value for money apart from another tax.

I've only been pulled up by one clown, who copped a fair mouth full.

Kim

Why would you abuse someone just doing their job?

I wasn’t having a go at the worker, but rather these bloody inane secondary taxes that have been building up since the introduction of GST.

I particularly have a problem with permits to use Crown and State lands that every Australian has a right to use without the further imposition of permits and taxes.

You can argue till your blue in your face, but I won’t change my point of view on this matter.

Kim

I don't disagree, they are annoying, but linking it to the GST is drawing a pretty long bow!

The other thing to remember, is that the permit fees probably help to cover the cost of bringing all the rubbish out of the desert that is left there by travellers.

You can I believe go from Birdsville to Big Red and beyond to the Start of the Simpson Desert National Park without a permit from there on you MUST have a Desert Parks Pass.
Co-ordinates are..... WGS84 25 54 41.19S
138 42 08.57E
For the Start of the Park.

I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

Cheers Dodg.

No I checked, only a camping permit is required if you want to camp on the QLD side which is Simpson Desert National Park which starts at the above coordinates and ends at SA/NT borders. The South Australian Desert Parks Pass only applies when you cross into SA at Poeppel Corner where enter the Simpson Desert Conservation Park and then Simpson Desert Regional Reserve.
