Hi All,
If your
water tank filler looks like this:

I suggest you have a look at the inside part of it.
Mine came unglued at the flange and I ended up filling the caravan with
water.
Here is the inside view:

And here is the piece that came off - still attached to the flexible filler pipe:

Note that there is little or no glue to hold it on. It is a wonder it stayed attached for 3 years.
We were filling the van from a hose when I noticed
water dripping from under the van where it should not have been dripping. Then I found that we had been filling the cupboard inside.
(Hope the pics work as this is my first try at inserting images)

Thanks for an excellent post!
I have been chasing a leak around the filler area on my camper trailer, possibly leaking around that join.
Thanks again!

I found that problem out whilst travelling to
Cape York with my off road camper trailer earlier this year...

Thanks for that Mike, I have the same filler on my CT.
I will check it out tomorrow and just see how it fits.
Can you put some silicone sealer on it and then a couple of PK's through the flange to seal and secure it?
Hope you enjoyed St.George.
Dave

Not an uncommon problem. Usually caused by the hose not being supported underneath the filler and the weight of
water in the hose pulls it apart on rough roads.
The easiest fix is :-
Make sure the weight of the hose is supported.
Then, fit a large screw type hose clamp around the joint, about 60mm from memory. All the ones I've seen have a mating ridge and groove in the joint, so a hose clamp works fine. The plastic is soft enough to conform and seal the joint.
I'd be cautious about the PK's, it's fairly soft plastic and without support could rip and leak.

I agree, not an uncommon problem. I encountered it with our Jayco and our new Paramount. Filled the cupboard up with
water in the Paramount ! !Agree with Lex M's fix.

I had a similar problem on
mine.
Luckily it is on the outside of the camper trailer.
There is also a rubber O ring in there too.
Assembled it with some silicon, and put some race tape over that.
Also, just behind and below the filler top is the vent.
It si just a stub with a barb on it.
Foujnd in some situations the
water in a full
tank would come back up the fill line and leak out, and some times dut would get in.
So I put a plastic hose on to extend the breather a bit higher and put a cheap fuel filter on the end of that to keep the dust out.
Also put a filter on the
tank overflow, dust was getting in there too.

I've got the same filler on our Galaxy van and while it hasn't broken as has yours it's a real PITA to fill via the filler with a very poor breather system.
I've since changed to filling the
water tank from the drainage barb at the bottom with a much faster fill rate to fill the
tank as the filler now acts as a breather.
Regards Andrew.

I have the same filler on my Getaway, it has been ok for 10 yrs but I have been putting off replacing the black filler hose as it has been weeping from the connection on the
tank but this may just be the encouragement I need to replace it and check this join as
well.
Thanks again, hope the clean up goes
well. I would rather be cleaning up your
water spill compared to
mine a few years back when I didn't put the cap on the bottom
tank (holding
tank) of our porta potti and the "liquid" went all through one of our cupoards eeeeeyouuuuuuu.
Regards, Trevor.

To make it easy to fill the tanks I have a 12mm piece of garden hose about 300mm long that has a neta connection for a hose on it.
I put the bare hose down the filler in the small hole that is pictured above and connect to the filling hose. On then can fill the tanks very quickly.

Hi Dodg,
Good idea. I had thought about doing that as I stand there listening to it gurgle and slowly fill. So now I will put together a hose like that. Thanks.

When filling up
tank for our last trip had the same problem as Mike in initial post.
Water came running out the van door after a trip through a cupboard!
I used to use the same method as Dodger with a small section of hose. Very quickly worked out that it was that method that caused the separation behind the filler to come apart. As soon as you put the hose in the small hole it is placing pressure on the join - & it doesn't take much to separate it.
Just be careful using that method,
Willy
