Hi Guy's I just discovered why my brake fluid level is going down quickly in the last few days, it's the load sensing proportioning valve that has a leak.

Just wondering if you have any tips on putting a seal kit through it!! or do they need total replacing????

Thanks in advance.

Check on the availability of a kit I guess, however if considering replacing the seals, you should also consider resleeving the cylinder with a stainless steel sleeve. Power Brakes in Adelaide can do this...I'm sure there are others around too.
What is the cost of a new propotioning valve?

Cheers Fab72.. Just come back from Bursons , Hmmmm no kit ! no valves! they say only genuine and that as we know won't be good.

I bet it's only one seal in it and it's a common one, after pulling and pushing on the plunger and spring , it has stopped leaking for the time being even after a drive. But that ain't no fix.

Why don't you try and dismantle it then clean it as it may be just a bit of gunk in it. Or simply disconnect the line leading away from it then pump it vigorously.
I would try many things before resorting to being taken for a part.
I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

Cheers Dodg.

Thanks Dodger it isn't rocket science but it is some strange contraption why it is spring tensioned has me stuffed.

But maybe that is where your right it may just have gunk in it and it's not seating properly. I nearly scored a second hand unit from me parts mate so I could pull it to bits but no luck that Paj wen't to the wreckers.

I have a manual but no exploded diagram of it so off to the brake specialist tomorrow see if I can bounce some ideas of him.

So far googling hasn't helped with any diagrams either.

Well this isn't turning out well so far nearly 700.00 bucks for a new valve from Mitsubishi. Now to try and find someone that will cut and shut it and throw in a new seal.

This may be off some help:
I recently had to do this to my old Triton (95 MJ d/cab) before I sold it. The rear proportioning valve was seized and I though I was up for similar bucks, however, The Brake specialist here in Cairns I went to (Knights brakes) told me that he sends these to an outfit in Brisbane that re-sleeves them (stainless) for $140, so that's what I did. Now, I'm not sure who he sends them to in Bris, but call Kevin at knights brakes (07 40513166) and he should be able to advise you on this.

Cheers
Mark

Oh well got a quote an a S/S re -sleeve, I had to pull it off and deliver! strange they had no work shop for that type of work.

Anyway the quote was for $230.00 a bit dear I thought! but they talked me out of just a new seal that would fit, as they tend to seize up and lock your rear brakes on if you do that (so they say) but with 3 youngsters sometimes in the back seat why would I take that risk.

Thanks for all your help I saved a fortune in the long run.

Cheers.
