I've recently bought a HJ61 'cruiser that came with an old Engel fridge, capable of running on 24V (The car is a Japanese Import)

My problem is that the previous owner simpy cut the plug off the fridge, ran cables from the batteries to the back and hardwired the fridge without a switch or fuse! I tested the fridge with my 12/24V power supply and it still works well so i'd like to keep it.

I'd like to install a plug and socket in the back of the car so I dont have wire hanging everywhere in the back, what 24V socket and plug sets work best? I was thinking of using the Engel Posi-fit lead and using that as the new power lead at the fridge end, then an Engel 2pin socket in the car. These are the leads that come with the new fridges which are also able to run on 24V.

What size fuse(s) should I be putting in-line from the battery end? I'm pretty sure that the start-up current of the compressor motor is 1.83A max @ 24V, will a 2A fuse suffice?

yeah i know the lead is fused, but what about from the battery to the back of the socket? if the 12V fuse is 10A, can I run a 5A fuse near the battery?

"if the 12V fuse is 10A, can I run a 5A fuse near the battery? "

Yes in a 24V system.

The 24 volt imports have a fuse protected, black "power outlet " box in the engine bay [driver's side] where you can tap off 24 volts from the main continuous[10 amp] , the ignition[7.5amp] or the accessories circuits[7.5amp] . Just unscrew the cover and all is revealed.
I've got my Engel on the ignition circuit[24 volts/7.5 amp] to prevent flattening the starting batteries when the motor is switched off.
When we stop away from AC power for an extended period, I plug the Engel DC lead into the 12 volt solar powered auxillary battery.

if you get the engle plug it comes with 2 fuses one for positive and for some reason one for neagative.

i couldnt recomend using the engle plug however as mine was junk and zI just couldnt get it to make a reliable conection.

I hard wired it and have never looked back
BUT I hard wired it via the 2 fuses that came with the engle plug
