Is there any parts on an imported turbo land cruiser 1998 with an 1 HD FTE with inter cooler motor that would be different to the Australian delivered models that I should be concerned about or couldn't be substituted with local products. eg brakes, electronic control gear, filters, etc.

Hi,

Are you sure its a 1998 model ? My understanding is that grey imports are only allowed up to 1989 models unless they are on the approved register of special vehicles (of which the landcruiser is not). So it puzzles me how it could be a grey import. But if it is an import it maybe 24v in which case all the electrical components will be different.

Cheers

It could be a private import, usually by someone coming to Oz to live and having owned it for the necessary period overseas.
There were a few that got in (usually early 90's) under the 15 yr rule before they locked it back at 1989.

This one is a 1998 privately imported in 2002. it has the 1 HD FTE motor inter cooled.
Every thing appears to be as the later 2000 plus models but I am concerned there may be some not so obvious bits that will stick us up when we are travelling around.

Get over to the LCOOL site (http://www.lcool.org) and join the forums there. Those boys know everything there is to know about cruisers. If the info you need isn't on those forums somewhere already, someone will be able to fill you in. It will probably help if know where it was imported from (Japan, I'm guessing?), what spec level it is (GXL, VX, Sahara etc) and the model code (HDJ100R for example, it should be on the compliance plate under the bonnet on the fire wall).

My gut feeling is that the main differences between imports and aussie versions is trim type stuff. I know the Jap ones had a fair bit more bling than ours. I think you will find that all the engine/transmission stuff will be the same, but don't quote me.

Hope that helps.

I have applied to join. The numbers on the fire wall are KG-HDJ101K -RNPEZ
It has an Aussie allocated vin number 6T9IMPV97W1NSX002 which all seem OK.
The motor is noted on the wall as 1 HD-FTE
The trans axle is A442F A01A

Thanks for your help

The car is great to drive etc

Cheers
