Hi All, I have recently purchased a 2007 V8 Deisel Landcruiser Troopie. I have not been away on any trips as yet but was wondering if there are other Troopie owners out there who could give me some idea of what fuel economy to expect when touring.

Went away with a friend who was on his first trip and he was getting 7 1/2 km per litre on average with a bit of off road and a bit of bitumen.I think that is about what Toyota quotes.

I've got the 76 Wagon (OK - a bit more aerodynamic!) but around town consistently I am getting 11.6 liters per 100 kms.
Touring (it depends upon top speed, weight and what's on the roof of course) with a mix of bush tracks and bitumen that goes up to about 12.6 liters per 100 kms.
If you are budgeting for fuel usage between re-fueling stops, then I'd suggest you work on 13.5 liters per 100 kms to be on the safe side.

On a slightly different note. Has anyone been stupid enough to see how fast the V8 will go. I over took a Road Train in my 2004 TD Troopy with D'tronic at 150 and it was still happy to go a lot faster. Scary!

Hi Troopy,
I towed a 24ft / 3 Ton van around Australia last year - Perth to the tip of Cape York and return - Here are the stats of my journey.
Note we didn't tow the van to Cape York - left it in Cairns

Motor Vehicle 25,200 ks
Caravan 15,000 ks
Duration 5.5 months
Diesel used 4,250 litres - $7,650 (ave $1.80 - ranged $1.65 to $2.25)

Diesel used breakdown (25,200 ks)
3,500 ks Off road and gravel – no caravan
(Cape Yorke, Point Sir Issac, Frazer Island). 6.7 k/l 520 litres
7,254 ks On bitumen highway and towns – no caravan. 8.25 k/l 870 litres
15,000 ks On bitumen with caravan at 80 k/h 5.25 k/l 2,860 litres

Around Australia full journey total 4,250 litres

Consumption trials - 4.5 litre Toyota V8 Diesel
Highway - no van 110 k/h 8.5 k/l
Off road (Varies greatly with load) 4 to 7 k/l
24’ van 80 k/h no wind 5.5 k/l
24’ van 110 k/h and head wind 4.0 k/l

I should have noted that my vehicle was a 2008 V8 Troopy (no roof rack) running on standard issued split rims and skinnys at about 40 PSI (except for sand)

Thanks Dennis. Very comprehensive records you keep. I have printed your info and will use as my guide. I have 16 x 8 rims with 275/16 AT tyres so expect to loose a little of economy. Thanks again
