Hi all.

Who ever said that women do not like driving the 4b's, called it wrong.

Yes Lyn, and Vivien C, both rolled up the sleves, on our recent escapade on the Canning, and had a go at driving, and did it well.

Both these "chics" did not miss a beat, and in the section of the canning with some of the biggest dunes... and towing campers as well..
Well done to both of them.

Cheers
Bucky

G/Day Bucky

I reckon most women can drive as good as men or vice versa, it's handy to have your wife, partner, or who ever, gain experience 4 wheel driving off road or on the bitumen, my Cook tows the van with out any problems at all, even up the beach, it comes in handy if you are unable to drive whether through illness or having a few to many, and it's amazing just to sit back and relax and see half the stuff you have missed while driving, but word of warning, never ever make any derogatory comments about their driving skills while they are getting the hang of it, as you will end up doing all the driving yourself lol lol.

Cheers

Well, various people will have their opinions about 'women drivers'. But I remember a news.com story earlier this year about women driving trucks in the mines. They spoke to some sort of manager type person who said they prefer women drivers as they get a longer service life out of the vehicles. Something about being easier on the trucks; not driving as aggressively.

Just a thought.

Coming across the Nullabor recently we listened to chat between quite a few female truck drivers. If girls can handle a road train or a B double, why not a 4wd.

It is actually a fact, that women are naturaly more smoother operators in machinery. I know some women operators and truckies, but i really couldnt call them the gentle type. But dont forget, its not just the driving part that you should be incorporating and encouraging your partner, but also the showing her over the maintenance side and how to use certain tools. No good being able to drive the Canning or the Simpson confidently, but then perishing when you cant change a tyre or a fan belt. No way am i saying that the ladies of Exploroz are in this category, but i have come across many women on the side of the road who couldnt change a flat. The latest was a lady who had run out of fuel in a Troopy. I jumped in asked about the rear tank and why is it showing full, she had no idea how to swap it over. She could have been stranded. Apparently one of the local coppers told her you dont need to swap it over it does it manually. And he drives one of these cars for a living???

Naturally though, the fella should be doing the driving and letting the missus kick back and enjoy it. MUCH safer drive that way. HAHAHAHAHA

On the Canning a couple of months ago we met a convoy of 5 (if I remember correctly) vehicles, and 4 of them were driven by women. Of course they got a big wave from the 2 women in our 2 vehicle convoy who just happened to be driving at the time.

Its a myth that women aren't into 4WDing. All it takes is a bit of support and encouragement. And a willingness to give up convenient stereotypes that might justify a bloke hogging the drivers seat!

And when we understand the 4wd issues we make better passengers and might even support the purchase of those extra toys for the vehicle.

So how about it fellas?

Cheers,

Val

My wife handles the Troopy like a pro.

Last trip in the Simpson a frustrated trail-bike leader wanted to employ her as his support driver. A little later his male support driver put the truck on its side!

Only down-side is that on Fraser beach I can't get her out from behind the wheel.
Winds the window down with the wind in her hair and wheeeeeeeee.

Hi All,

last year we had a convoy of 5 vehicles crossing the Simpson Desert and 3 of the girls including my wife had a go. it was great to see them having a shot at it and enjoying themselves.
we had a rule though, when they were driving we changed the sand flag over to a pair of knickers which they had bought along for the purpose.
it was quite amusing to see the undies flying in the breeze.
the girls did a great job and my wife did most of the crossing, which i didn't mind as I have done it before.
go girls.

Cheers
Henry.

Gday Bucky,
How about you tell them the rest of the story........The only reason the girls had to drive was because you and Ray were to pi$$ed to even see the sand dunes. LOL

I think the differentiator is the interest. Generally I believe men are more capable drivers but that is only due to the fact that many women dont take much interest in driving whereas, generally, for males this is a virtual rite of passage when growing up.

If you arent interested in something it's difficult to be good at it.
