The turbo in my Discovery has been whistling for the last few thousand k's.
My mechanic advises replacement because if they let go the impeller parts do not help the interior of the engine.
The cost through LRA for a new Garrett unit is $3814 plus GST. A reco unit is $2000.
A new OEM unit from the UK is 450 pounds plus 100 pounds postage. This comes out to $961 AUD. Thats nearly a grand I 'd rather spend on something else. But hey, over 3 grand less than the local price!

Hi there Try contacting British Off road in
Forrest Glen Sunshine Coast. They sell all parts new and recond. They have a web site just google and you will find it.
I am in no way affiliated with British off road...

I agree about the Disco's. I was happy to be able to help out. We use them for anything we need and they do ship to you which is great. We have a good mechanic that just does Land Rover so we are not at the Mercy of the Landrover dealerships...

Are you sure it's the turbo and not broken manifold bolts causing the whistle, I've never heard of a TD5 having turbo problems.
Go to AULRO and PM Bundalene on the
forum, he has a lot of TD5 parts for sale at very good prices.
Baz.

The easiest way to find out is to start the engine, then get someone to hold some rags over the end of the exhaust while someone listens to the exhaust manifold, if there is a leak in the manifold you will hear it straight away as the noise will increase.

Thanks for the tips.
The car is with the mechanic now. I guess he will check that. He has a Disco himself.

Get a torch and look for black soot around the front of the exhaust manifold. Then do a Hoodini and look at the studs. It could also be a nut has come loose.
The first and second studs are the ones that normally break.
Dont forget to have the manifold faced.
