Hello ,
I would well imagine many of you would have some tips to upgrade my 1990, 80series landcruiser, which I have just recently purchased the vehicle is totally standard but I am finding that it is sagging in the bum , and when connecting our pop top it sags even more,
I have just had a 90 litre LPG system fitted, and tow a poptop which weighs around 850kgs loaded, I am guessing here abit with a tow ball down load of about 150/160kg,

I understand the springs need to be replaced to solve the issue but I want to avoid jacking the back up and riding uneven so would intend changing the front springs as well I guess,

next question how much harder do I go and where do I buy them from???

I live in Adelaide and have Adelaide springs on port road, which can manufacture what I need or do I just go out and buy of the shelf springs
I would like to know if any one has used Adelaide springs on port rd for themselves.

but what do i need to tell them as far as % of spring??
I am unsure the standard % I have now and what I need to calculate what I need to solve the sag???
I know the joke by the way
she's an oldish girl
so expect a bit of sag in the bum.
but this one is as tight as a drum with only 160kms on the clock and never really used as a 4x4 . so a bit of a virgin!

thanks in advance to any advice given
cheers

If you don't want to change the height why not look at getting some airbags and inflate them as needed when you tow and take them back down when you don't? Will be much cheaper option I think?

Hi Wizz,
I have just done my 80 series with ARB (Old Man Emu).
I had new springs all round, front damper and poly air bags.
Like you, mine was original and needed to be done. I had medium springs in the rear so you get get the harsh ride when empty and just pump up the airbags when loaded. I also had a 2" lift. The difference is fantastic to ride and handling. Cost @ $2000 all up.

Thnaks Guys
can you explain about these air bags,

I was hoping not to spend a fortune on it but at $2000.0 for your conversion is a bit steep for me at present ,

what about spacers??
cheers

Hey Wizz,
If you just fit the springs you will have the issue of too hard when unladen or too low when laden.
You can fit the polyairs to your existing springs on the rear and just pump them up when you have a load on. The cost of the polys was about $450.00 I think.

I've used Industrial Springs on Port Rd many times for both 4wds and trailers. great company - been around a long, long time.

My daughter's 80series needed lifted springs recently, and bought 2" lift Terrain tamer springs. The front sat a bit high, so I took them out and had them reset down by Industrial Springs.

Industrial springs have stopped their fitting service, so you can either do them yourself or get a garage to do it. Sounds like you want the standard height heavy duty springs. I'd fit them, see how it goes and if you need a bit more support in the rear, then add polyairs.

Have a look at Ironman suspension too. Top quality gear at very reasonable prices. I'd imagine what your after though would be a full new kit. Might end up costing more trying to get the rear to suit the front and then still have the problem of sagging when loaded. I would be looking at some air bags definitely if towing, and if the existing suspension is still good then maybe just some 2'' coil spacers for the rear to lift it back up a touch.

Ironman Spacers

Ironman 2'' lift

I am in no way affiliated with Ironman, just a very happy customer. There suspension and warranty is top notch, very hard to fault there shock absorbers and leaf springs. I would imagine there coils would be excellent also.
