I'm looking at buying a GU ST MY08 Nissan Patrol. It's only a 5 seater but I'm really looking for a 7 seater. Can I buy and fit the two extra seats in a 5 seater or do they not have the mounting points built in ? Any help welcomed on this as the vehicle I'm looking at is a beauty.

All the basic bolt points are there Old Mal. I use them in the various alternate setups we have . If any specific questions that others can't answer then I can find out on weekend as I took my out on day 1 and they won't go back in till I sell , (whenever that is with the poor crop of new vehicles around).

This being the case Old Mal, I saw a set of rear seats in the trader section of this site a few days back. You may want to check them out to see if they suit??? I think they were in the free or swap section????

Cheers, Trevor.

G'day Old Mal, Is the vehicle registered as a 7 seater? If not contact your Govt Registration Dept you may have to get it inspected once seats are fitted & or have an engineers certificate. Don't forget to nitify your insurance company & I suggest in writing & get a response in writing from them. If it's only set up for 5 you'll have to fit seatbelts too. I think all GU's are 7 seater registered anyway just thought I would offer a suggestion. Good luck with the Patrol.

This could be interesting.

As others have said the hardware is in place and as you can see getting a set of seats is pretty easy.

The only impedement I can think of would be compliance with the relevant registration laws.

Have a look at the compliance plate and see what it says. If it says 5 seats then you could have an issue and should contact the appropriate authority in WA. If it says 7, which I doubt, but you never know until you look, then it should only take you about 20 min from when the seats arrive at your place.

I put mine in and take them out regularly. It is a very easy job.

Oh and let us know what the plate says. I'm curious

If it was sold originally from the dealer as a 5 seater you will need to get an engineer to change the compliance plate on the fire wall under the bonnet. The plate will list the max number of seats/occupants, and it would obviosuly be illegal to have more than 5 people in the vehicle unless the plate is changed. I shouldn't be a terribly difficult task to get done, but it will cost you. So you might want to find out the cost and factor that in as you consider buying the vehicle.

As well as being illegal, I would imagine having mare occupants than the compliance plate would also void any insurance claims in the event of an accident.

If it is an ST then it would have been a 7 seater. Ask the owner/dealer what happened to the missing seats. I think it was only the DX models that were sold with 5.

Cheers

I was thinking the same thing also. Mal shouldn't have any legality problems and by the looks of it above he wont have any troubles finding seats

Thanks to all members who replied to my question for their wise words. The Patrol I looked at was only licensed as a 5 seater so I think I'll keep looking for a genuine 7 seater and save all the pain and problems.
